Oil for a Triplet

Posted By Hans Tucker

I know this is a long shot but does anyone actually know what oil is used for between the triplet objective lens element on a APOMAX 130.

In defence of my question about the type of oil I am trying to get the optics on my APOMAX cleaned and the member whom is going to do the task has asked what oil was used so he can match the refractive index.

Testing Objective

Posted By Hans Tucker

Well the attempt at obtaining contact details for the manufacturer of the APOMAX refractors hasn't been successful. So next question is whether it is possible to test the objective from a refractor to determine what each element is made from and it's refractive index.

Supercharge??

Posted By Hans Tucker

I came across an ad in the classifieds section for a Meade 7" Maksutov. In the ad it states "Supercharged by Dr. Clay Sherrod at the Arkansas Observatory". How do you Supercharge a scope? Obviously this may elude to some enhancements so what did Dr Clay Sherrod at the Arkansas Observatory do to this and possibly other scopes that warrant the tag 'Supercharged'?

Astro-Physics f/12.5 Maksutov-Cassegrain

Posted By Hans Tucker

Reading an interesting article in Astronomy Magazine, (Vol 36, Issue 12) December 2008, titled 'Astroimaging over ancient Greece' written/submitted by Anthony Ayiomamitis. I noted that the author listed an Astro-Physics f/12.5 Maksutov-Cassegrain Reflector in his inventory of equipment. Is the Astro-Physics f/12.5 Maksutov-Cassegrain in production now? The Astro-Physics website has this scope still listed as 'Prototype' so would Anthony Ayiomamitis scope be one out for field testing before full production? Also, has a price been set for this scope?

Insuring Equipment

Posted By Hans Tucker

Probably the wrong folder so apologies in advanced. How do you guys & gals insure your equipment (scopes, mount and accessories). Is there a insurance company or policy that covers this type of gear or do you just cover it under household contents insurance.

Is there another scope in the pipeline???

According to Art there is more to come, but he and James are tight lipped about exactly what...bets are on a larger TOA...maybe a TOA-170.

Image Capture Software

A while ago I purchased an ATK-2HS CCD Camera which didn't come with software. What image capture software can be used with this type of camera?
