David Freiheit (a.k.a. Viva Frei) is a Canadian attorney / YouTuber who has covered quite a bit of American politics and law on his channel over the past couple years.  He is pretty insightful and always entertaining.

This video is a bad take. No active politician is going to allow anyone who wants to go on a fishing expedition through their records. Donald Trump, for example, has fought this exact kind of investigation repeatedly. Why would anyone expect Biden to have to subject himself to all types of scrutiny unrelated to the Reade case? You don't expect Trump to do that, so why is it ok to expect such a high burden from Biden? The University of Delaware papers are not entirely curated yet. They do not contain any personnel records, and it's entirely in keeping with standard practice to not release these kinds of records until two years after whoever donated has retired from active political life. If you think that Biden should open these records, then you should be ok with Trump opening his accounts of his business dealings with Russia. I suspect you are not ok with this, though.

Still, Kavanaugh was savaged by the press.  Kavanaugh was savaged in congressional hearings on live TV.  I think that the entirely and dis-functionally partisan DC press corps and the leaders of the Democratic party are to blame, and I personally will never forget.

p.s. I don't think this disqualifies Biden, and I don't think he should step aside.  I am willing to accept that his denials are at least (and possibly more persuasive than the allegations.)  My venom is directed solely at the DC press corp and the Democrats who orchestrated the unwarranted character assassination of Brett Kavanaugh.

Hi Jim,

I don't deny there is a difference in coverage. However, it's hard to imagine Biden being more open and transparent about these allegations than he has been. I'm ready to change my mind if serious evidence arises that would change reasonable minds.

It's worth noting, again, that Trump has dozens of cases of severe sexual misconduct leveled against him, and it has not received the scrutiny that it necessarily warrants either. Intellectual honesty demands that Republicans who are so worried about the accusations against Biden should be at least as worried about the allegations against Trump. Still, they are not and have not been. Trump has never seriously addressed any of the claims against him other than lying about them, attacking his accusers, and using hush-money to silence them. This behavior is in stark contrast to how Biden is handling only one claim.

Darian,

According to the same article posted by Jim, your analogy is precisely backward.

Fox News is the only national news source with majority-level trust from Republicans, while majorities of Democrats trust six national news sources.

Republicans are generally much less trusting of news outlets and reach majority-level trust only for one additional source: Fox News. Conversely, majorities of Democrats trust 10 of the 15 sources, and at least half of independents trust eight of them.

It's the Republicans who ignore dissenting opinions and trust only one news source that is arguably America's version of Pravda.

This apparent leak is quite interesting. It seems that someone is determined to bypass Trump's misinformation and happy talk. We are ending mitigation before we have shown steady declines only for political reasons and not because public health officials think it's a good idea. This leak, coupled with Birx's Sunday comments about 200K dead, should sound alarms, but I have zero faith it will spur the Trump administration into actually mounting a competent federal response. Trump squandered the two months of January and February, and they seem to determined to waste what little time we bought them via severe non-pharmaceutical interventions.

So, you go from accusing Democrats of being mindless communist slaves who trust only one state-media news source. Then when called out on that bull-shit, you instead pivot to claiming that all news sources other than the state-media news source Republicans trust are just mouthpieces for the DNC. I've seen plenty of goal-post moving in my day, but that is an amazing 180-degree pivot.

I can't really fault Biden for the delay though...  If I were his advisor, I'd have advised him to lay low too, so long as the primary/only press read or viewed by likely D voters buried the story.

Jim

Hi Jim,

Similarly, Biden is no Newt Gingrich, Dennis Hastert, or Tim Murphy. We all know neither party has a monopoly on sexual misconduct or political hypocrisy. Still, despite a two-week delay, or ignoring it until they couldn't anymore, or however you want to characterize it, there is a profound difference between Biden's handling of the accusations against him, and how Trump conducted himself. I think that difference matters too. It is undoubtedly a gauge of each man's character, if nothing else.

Were you aware that they do this? It's really comical. Rush points this out occasionally.

Darian,

I get my news from a multitude of sources, and I can tell you unequivocally that you are wrong. The New York Times, The Washington Post, NPR, The Atlantic, and so forth and so on all have extremely varied viewpoints, especially when it comes to opinion pieces. For example, The New York Times recently had an opinion piece that said that despite what Biden says about the University of Delaware not having personnel records, that he should allow apolitical judges access to the records to look for anything related to Tara Reade. I assure you, that what you call the MSM is not a monolith.

Men of integrity do this every day. I hate to say it, Fred, but that is quite an old-fashioned notion you have there. My millennial generation children, nieces, and nephews would call that an outdated "get off my lawn" line of reasoning.

Biden's responses did him no credit.  He could be 100% innocent of all allegations, yet he came across as someone who couldn't give a straight answer and whose mental agility leaves a lot to be desired.

Fred

Interesting. Now can you get them to do the same analysis on Trump? What do you think their conclusion would be if they are intellectually consistent?
