Can't we all just get along?

Posted By Tom Rodstrom

Right now there is a big struggle that goes beyond globalization. Obama spells it out clearly:

Do we reward wealth or do we reward work?

When we divide up the pie, who gets the bigger slice, the man who drills the oil well or the one who speculates on the commodities market. Right now the speculators are winning and they don't give a damn what happens to anyone anywhere as long as they get theirs.

The Southern Strategy

Posted By Tom Rodstrom

Lee Spain said:

Ah...the Democrats Southern strategy becomes clear. They want Southerners to elect Democrats and then they want to marginalize the Democrats they elect. Virginia Senator James Webb gets mentioned for the VP slot and then gets slammed by the liberal establishment for his books about the war between the states. Apparently, if you revere J.E.B. Stuart, Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee's staunch resistance to an invasion of your homeland, you are some kind of Nazi and should not vote for a Democrat.

Give me a break, Lee. The Confederacy/Slavery is a hot potato issue that would surely be trouble. It is not a Southern strategy, it is no different than any other controversial issue that MIGHT turn voters away. That's what vetting is all about. Take a look at a prospect's positives and negatives, and make an informed decision.

Global warming is crap and ...

1. There is a an Astromart forum on Global Warming. Try it, you might learn something.

2. John Coleman is a great entertainer. I enjoyed his broadcasts for years while I was in San Diego, but he is a broadcaster, not a scientist.

3. One thing he says is: "The Arctic ice cap is largely back to normal."

The science does not back that up.
Vast cracks appear in Arctic ice
Dramatic evidence of the break-up of the Arctic ice-cap has emerged from research during an expedition by the Canadian military.

It appears that someone is full of what "Global warming is ..."

McFlipFlop

I am having serious doubts about McCain's character. He seems to put his personal wants and needs above doing what is right. This trait is clear when he left his crippled wife, his 14 year old daughter and his two adopted children for a rich woman who was roughly half his age. Talking about her divorce his ex-wife says "I attribute it more to John turning 40 and wanting to be 25 again than I do to anything else."

Next he sells his soul to totally embrace Bush and his policies in order to get the Republican nomination. Now it seems that he will say anything in order to get elected.

Why do you oppose drilling for oil?

Posted By Tom Rodstrom

The main reason I oppose opening further areas for drilling because I want to leave something for the generations to come. As oil becomes scarcer and scarcer, the value of our oil reserves will skyrocket.

We have become a consumer society which puts much too great a value on things. To get these things we squander our lives and our resources. I have lots of things, but what I really value is a quiet time in the wilderness with good friends on a good day. Sadly, I spend too much time and effort servicing my "things".

There are other important reasons:

1. Oil supplies are finite, so we must develop alternate energy sources (nuclear, solar & wind).
2. Global warming is a serious threat to world stability and we must face this problem.

Oil Speculation Article

"The infamous December 2000 "Enron loophole" is the topic du jour in Congress. That legislation didn't just make it easier for savvy traders to buck the system. It exempted entire over-the-counter electronic exchanges (where trading takes place directly between parties, without an intermediary broker) from regulatory oversight by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission."

The guy who created the "Enron loophole" in the middle of the night is McCain's top financial adviser. More of the same, you bet.

Exiting Iraq Now

Posted By Tom Rodstrom

Jim, as I understand it, the surge in Iraq was accompanied by a major shift in policy. With Rumsfled and his disastrous leadership forced out of the picture Gates was able to change tactics. Local commanders were ordered to work with the local Iraqi leaders (sheiks, etc.) to get their help and get them involved in decisions rather than trying to force a neoconservative utopia on a tribal culture that took a millennium to develop.

IMO this change in tactics is at least as responsible for the progress in Iraq as the extra troops.

Obamanomics is a Recipe for Recession

Posted By Tom Rodstrom

The author of this hit piece is a senior fellow at the Hoover Foundation a conservative, libertarian "think" tank with an axe to grind. These are the people who cooked up the current economy that is working it's way toward a depression. He has also been a board member of Exxon Mobile for more than a decade. Exxon might trust his economic advice, but it won't help me.

The Hoover Foundation sports such stars as Donald Rumsfeld, Condoleezza Rice and Newt Gingrich. It is funded by:

* Archer Daniels Midland Foundation
* ARCO Foundation
* Boeing-McDonnell Foundation
* Chrysler Corporation Fund
* Dean Witter Foundation
* Exxon Educational Foundation
* Ford Motor Company Fund
* General Motors Foundation
* J.P. Morgan Charitable Trust
* Merrill Lynch & Company Foundation
* Procter & Gamble Fund
* Rockwell International Corporation Trust
* Transamerica Foundation

You can trust these guys, Jim, they're always on the side of the little guy. wink

Obama Leaked his Prayer to Press Before He Didn`t

Jim, don't bother to post trash from websites like redstate.com. They make their money posting whatever twisted stories that they can come up with for the crippled minds that want to believe that unverified trash.

Obama Leaked his Prayer to Press Before He Didn`t

Posted By Tom Rodstrom

The newspaper which printed Barack Obama's prayer was taking so much flack that it tried to spread some lies about Barack Obama. Reputable sources check their sources as do reputable posters.

"I finally heard back from the Ma'ariv spokesman, who denied that the Obama campaign leaked the memo to them or gave them approval to print it, and who disavowed the alleged spokesman who gave quotes to at least four Israeli publications. At the risk of beating a dead horse, I'll be following up with those publications to find out where they got those quotes from. I just spoke with an editor at one of those publications who broached the possibility that Ma'ariv was trying to deflect criticims of it by releasing these spurious rumors about the Obama campaign, but upon realizing that they'll have to back up those accusations, is now disavowing them. I'll update here if I get anything interesting from those publications."
