Which is it? Is Trump just a victim of circumstance, or does he have complete authority? It seems to me that you guys want it both ways. Can he alone fix it, or is he not a delivery service for the states? Should states fend for themselves, or is the federal government justified in seizing individual state's orders for PPE from abroad? So much so that some states, like MA, created a back-channel to get PPE into their state precisely so the federal government could not seize it? Is everybody going to be able to get a test that wants one, or is it the fault of states that the federal government rejected the WHO test? Are we going to have mobile testing sites all across the country in the parking lots of private businesses like CVS and Walgreens or not? Is Google working on that web site or not? We didn't open on Easter, is it May 1st now like has been promised? Where is that reopen the economy council we were promised, and what is their plan? The amount of obfuscation and disinformation and outright lying that has occurred by just Trump himself during this crisis is outrageous. Calling him a terrible leader is frankly an insult to terrible leaders everywhere.

You can justify it that way if you want, but as it turns out, the ban was meaningless. In hindsight, it accomplished nothing.

p.s.  I'm talking about hard political content only.  PBS, and the NYT have excellent straight news, science, cultural, and other reporting that I enjoy very much and trust.

I know the NYT and WaPO lean left, and WSJ leans right, but they are head-and-shoulders above FOX or MSNBC. I do like NPR even for political stuff; they always seem quite fair and present both sides.

I think we have had this conversation in the past, but it's a myth that we ever had an independent press and media with no bias. In the beginning, all news and media were privately owned by the rich and powerful. Their purpose was to push a particular viewpoint. The idea of an unbiased media is a relatively modern invention. Take the NYPost, for example. In its current form, it's a tabloid. No one should take anything reported in it seriously. However, its founder was Alexander Hamilton in 1801 as the New York Evening Post. Its founding happened mainly because of the election of Thomas Jefferson, and its purpose was to push Federalist views.

No, it's not. The virus was already here. The sudden and abrupt ban did nothing but cause a flood of people to return all at once from COVID hot-spots like Spain, and Italy. As a result, they crowded together in airports and spread it even more. Then, they dispersed to their communities and spread it even further.

A much more sensible approach would have been to announce a phased approach and given people time to plan and prepare for their return. The EU ban caught everyone by surprise, including our allies, federal immigration workers in airports, and expatriates. It overwhelmed our customs and borders system and our international arrival airports, and in the long-run, probably did far more harm than good.

Why is it that you want to completely miss this part, "The virus is already here. It was here as far back as December, and the CDC knew." I admit my rhetoric was a bit over the top. I honestly thought at the time that Miller might have been behind the decision. I'll say now that turns out not to have been the case. My main point was the ban was pointless, and that is vindicated with time. Anyone who cares can read it for themselves and make their mind up, and I'm perfectly comfortable with that.

So, you nit-pick whether the WSJ leans right or not, then you tangent off into some screed that seems to think I said the NYT is right-leaning when I clearly said it was left-leaning? Got it.

It's just when I read some of your characterizations of Trump, I really wonder if it's conceivable to you that he may be reelected? You seem to be the poster child for TDS.

Okay, question answered. You do not have a different rejoinder.

My apologies to Rod for continuing the love-fest, but I promise, after this, I will have no more love to spend.

The point is Richard that you do pick-apart, take out of context, and misrepresent what people say routinely. You then use it as a basis 3,000 long word rant that I promise you no one reads.

This case is no different. If you go back and look at my original posting, in context, it was in response to Russ Carrol, who had posted about Trump's decision and his oval office address where he called it a "foreign virus." In context, my response does not seem too far over the top, given Trump's rhetoric. And my chief complaint was that the ban was unnecessary and would accomplish nothing. That initial observation of mine is vindicated.

That's it. That's the tweet. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

All yours now, Rod.

Steve,

Where have you been? Have you not listened to Trump recently anoint himself, King? It is hilarious to accuse Biden of wanting to control us and then completely ignore Trump's recent proclamations about how the President has complete authority. He seems to think, for example, that he can force Governors to reopen their states, and that he has the power to adjourn Congress at will, and that he and he alone controls the purse strings of the federal government.

This ad, released by a GOP group called the Republicans for the Rule of Law, that opposes Trump's re-election pretty well sums it up:
