I'm fine with a combination of spending cuts and tax hikes provided the government does the spending cuts first. Obama seems to want the reverse. Tax hikes now with the "promise" of spending cuts in some distant future. Demonstrate to us now that you can actually cut spending, beyond some zero point something percent, and then we'll consider giving more of our hard earned money.

Andrew and Katrina prove that things do get nasty and can last a while. I think you need:

A generator
a lot of fuel
a lot of water for drinking and for keeping clean
canned food with manual can opener
Cash
Batteries
Flash lights
A grill of some kind
buckets
tarps
a 90 supply of any prescriptions
a radio
a power tank for you telescope since the sky will be really dark.
And you need a gun with a lot of ammo.

Rod, you still need to drill baby drill. 50% of each barrel of oil is use for gasoline, 15% diesel, and most of the rest is used for petro-chemicals. The petro chemical products surround us and make our lifestyle possible. We need more domestic supply and less hostile supply.

Structure in gaseous nebulae - what do you see?

With an OIII and a dark sky I've seen a lot of structure in the Veil Nebula using my 11". In my buddy's 25" its stunning. Others in Orion like the Flame and Running Man also show structure. Using an H-beta I've also seen some in the California Nebula.

I saw it "George J. Clinton". I guess that slipped by the editor. For Obama they have as the reason "Arab Spring". Arab Spring has such a nice ring to it. It makes me wonder who thought that one up. It makes the chaos over there sound so happy. Imagine if someone wrote "The German Enlightenment" in the 1930s to describe the Nazis.

My parents are mixed. They got married when my dad was stationed in England in the 1960s (I was born in 1963). When it came time for us to return to the States there were certain states they could not be stationed because of laws against inter-racial marriage. We ended up in New Hampshire. At the same time that he couldn't go to certain states he was still very much allowed to go to Vietnam.

To add to this a bit, my grandparents on both my dad's and mom's side were opposed to inter-racial marriage. There are still many extended family members on both sides that are against it. I can tell you first hand it's not just a white republican form of bigotry.
