Nice detail in the emission zones but the photo has an interesting mottled texture to it overall. Do you know what causes that?

I heard the Canon 40D will be out soon, probably will be announced at Photokina. There was a page on a HK Canon website but the link was quickly removed.

Wow. The H-a shows features I've never seen before in this area. In particular, the striations that almost look like shock waves on the left-maybe from a supernova? That's new to me!

Well, here's my try at it from the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was pretty low on the horizon and within the light cone of the distant town of Elkin, but this sure is a pretty cluster, many many stars. Scope: 5" refractor at f/4.5.
