I wish that I could get in some good viewing. The last time that it was clear here, the seeing was ~1-2 with horrendous small scale distortions plus large-scale waviness (like looking from the bottom of a swimming pool).

Taking into account Saddam's attitude, and Bush's desire to rid the earth of Saddam, I'd say that the odds of our not going to war are roughly a googleplex to one.

I don't think so because it is similar in color to the surrounding area. A combinitation of small size and lack of contrast would render it invisible.

However, if it had a hood of clouds when you tried to observe it, you may be able to see that.

OTOH, I wonder if someone with a very large scope under miraculously good seeing conditions might detect it...

The fun thing about serving under Captian Kirk is that you would be in delightful space battles and brawls all of the time, none of this boring pseudo-science.

Or how about Kahn? (actually I would like to be Kahn himself, so I really couldn't serve under myself)

Serving under Janeway might have its advantages (namely Seven of Nine, yow!)

Picard seems to be the best overall captian, as far as leadership goes, but the pollitical climate in his time is far too anal.

Sisco? Naw, too much boring life aboard Deep Space Nine. Dealing with crooked Ferrengi (sp?) every day would not be my idea of a good time.

That new guy? No their weapons and shielding stink.

All in all, I would chose Kirk. My reasioning? First off, you would be in an early enough period that you could do lots of exploring without overly stringent control from starfleet, yet your weapons, shields, and engines would be acceptably good. You could visit all of those surreal planets that they visit in the Original Series (of course the special effects would be much better) :-), and finally, the afore mentioned delightful battles and brawls. (Plus you can vaporize people with your phasers, none of this sissy stunning buisness.)
