Collimation question

I just went thru the same exercise with my NexStar 5, same tube. The diagonal was badly out of collimation. I switched to my good mirror diagonal and viola! problem solved. I discovered how bad the prism diagonal was off by installing it in my 80mm refractor and viewing it from the objective end.

There was a recent thread regarding diagonals and how poorly some are assembled. I have an identical prism diagonal which is perfect. (You know maybe I've got too much stuff....nah)

Binoculars For Eyeglass Wearers

Hi,

I've found that any binoculars with sliding eyecups will provide enough eye relief for glasses. A more pressing problem if your precription is not correcting to 20-20 or thereabouts, is the issue of diopter correction. Some binoculars are quite limited +/- 2 while others offer as much as 4 +/-.

I'm using Pentax 16x60's and find them to fit nicely...and they are a bargin. Others may comment that the FOV of 2.9 deg is tight, but on a cost benefit basis they are hard to beat. I would also look to Bugress Optical for their offerings. Bill Burgess is great and has quality stuff.

My recollection is that we watched the lunar lander module 'take off' from the moon...I think live. That means that there area several video cameras still there.

Could they be turned on????

Hi Geoff,

If you can align with a 9mm eyepiece you should have no problems. I usually use an 18mm radian. I use a cheap bullseye level on the battery cover. I use Polaris as an alignment star from time to time. Never have had a problem...except when I've entered bad data.

If you're off by 10 to 15 degrees its sounds like a data entry error may be your problem. DST vs Std Time? Time Zone? Storing the wrong lat/long in the "0" memory location?
Or whatever location you're using.

If you've tried all this simple stuff, then I'm at a loss.

Powermate does it require an extension?

Hi Bill,

I've used the 2.5x Powermate successfully with a 5" and 8" SCT with no issues. I also have the TV 2x Barlow. On any given night I always check with both for the best results when observing double stars. I have not tried to correlate conditions to performance.
