Re: Oberwerk 22x100 likes and dislikes

That's very true Jon, but it comes down to how you like to observe. Two eye comfort with amazing wide field views of both arcs of the Veil, surrounded by star fields or close up detail on Jupiter. Different strokes for different folks. That's why I own both!

ORION HighLight Plossl eyepieces

Posted By Brian Goodman

Hi Robert. I have binoviewed with the Highlight's and the Epic ED's. I honestly thought that the ED's were worth the small increase in price over the Highlight's. Less ghosting, better contrast, and eye relief.

Sweet!. From my dark Colorado mountain location, the milky way look's pretty close to that. Unfortunately that exact location of your shot has a big mountain in the way!

Mark. I'm up near Steamboat, and yes we got 6 inches of snow today. We hav'nt had any clear skies for two weeks!. Spring time in the Rockies is right!.. PS, I believe the Denks give my SCT a 12% increase. Not sure if that is any help.

Binocular sights

Daryl, I mounted an Orion EZ finder II on my 22 X 100 Oberwerks. Just used double sided tape near the Eyepieces. It held good enough. I also added Astrozap Binocular dew shields, which are very nice. All of that (along with a heavy duty Unimount), makes for a very nice setup. I have found that using some kind of finder with the binoculars is pretty much a must have at these magnifications.

General ?'s about FS128

John, I love my Unistar Deluxe on a Bogen 3058. The Unistar is rated at 30 lbs and the Bogen at 44 lbs. It's smooth and precise. I mount my Tak FS 78 and my 8" SCT on it.

first set of eyepieces for binoviewing

Posted By Brian Goodman

Hi Jon. Using a Denk standard with a 8" and 9.25" SCT. If you get the duel arm power switch, you will get four magnifications with a single pair of eyepieces. I've gone with simple plossls and Epic ED's to Pentax XL's. All of those are sold now, and I'm using a pair of 30mm Ultrascopics, which are perfect for me. They handle all four magnification settings and provide sharp and stunning views. At around $220 a pair they are a major binoviewing bang for the buck. Two eye's are better than one! smile . Good luck.

when does a 8" scope become a 12"

Posted By Brian Goodman

Thanks for that report Larry. I love reading reports like that. I'm located at 9300 ft in the northern Colorado rockies with very dark skies. I keep trying to convince myself that I NEED a Big expensive Dob to take advantage of my skies; but then I take my little C8 on my Unistar out to my deck and enjoy stunning unfilterd views of both arcs of the Veil. Reports like yours save me money, and that makes my wife very happy wink....Clear and DARK skies.
