mine has helped me some on galaxies, but it does dim them too, mostly makes the sky blacker so it "looks" more pleasing. It kinda ruins cluster, all those green stars kinda freak me out haha Ron

OPTICS QUALITY HELP

I haven't veiwed through those myself BUT from years of reading posts on here it seems like in the 8 inch size there are many Celestrons out there ppl brag about. On the smaller sizes like you mentioned, I myself have an ETX9O for a quick peek scope, and although not very bright, it is tack sharp and the star test is 99% perfect. I say 99% because I know it can't be 1OO even though to my eye it looks to be, and I did read an article in S&T comparing the smaller etx to the nexstar 4 and the Meade was quite a bit better. Ron

Hey there, Well, a flat mirrors focal point would be infinity, so you'd have to have your focuser kinda far away lol, like infinately far. You would also, even if you could curve a mirror like that to some sort of parabolic curve, have such freaky horrible images it would be unusable. Too bad it would be a cheap way. :-} On the positive note, if you build the scope minus the mirrors, you can buy an 8 inch cheaper mirror and at least get some decent images, Take care! Ron

Question on Planetary Magnification Increments

Hi, First Im curious, what scope do you have? I have a 6 inch F5 also, Discovery brand. I haven't "met" any other 6 inch F5 scope owners out there. Second, I do the "pull the eyepeice out" deal for small increases, seems to be about all the range I've need for the last few years. I have 4 eyepeices and a barlow. Usually it seems like I have more range than I need as I hate to be changing and refocusing all the time haha. Without barlow I can hit, 18x, 3Ox, 75x, and 136x and with barlow 36x, 6Ox, 15Ox, and 272x. and with a pull about 3OOx. So I have a big gap from 15Ox to 272x. Man, I never noticed that till now haha. APO or Dob in the rainy Pacific Northwest

Hey cool, a fellow Pacific NW-er! Were in N. Idaho, and it's been raining, and raining, and snowing and raining here too! We have a 6 inch EQ. Cool downs aren't too bad. Do you have a covered deck or anything? I put ours out there to pre-cool before it get's dark, then your ready to go! A dark site is always better but either scope can give you much fun in the yard too. Hey, next time your at Woodland Park Zoo, say hi to the baboon for me, I got into an argument with him years ago haha! Take care! Ron
