#1401 Borg Eyepiece Holder any good?

Posted By Greg Elspas

Vladimir,
I have used the EP turret on a couple of Borg refractors and have been very happy with it. It is plastic but certainly sturdy enough and weighs considerably less than the 2" TV Everbrite that I use otherwise. I would agree with Alex that you don't want to use real heavy EPs with it. But with a full complement of light EPs such as Tak LEs or orthos it's a very convenient lightweight setup and beats fumbling with EPs in the dark.

Bizzaro 5" refractor

The Borg 125ED when equipped with the optional short tube works without a corrector. I currently use a Hutech binoviewer with a 1.3x corrector on my Borg but have been considering doing the same and going without a corrector altogether.

Aurora from 30* north

I managed a couple of short exposure pictures on my digital camera (hand held) this evening. These are from Harpers Ferry, WV. The colors were brilliant.

To flock the impossible...

Posted By Greg Elspas

I tried flocking with the McMaster self-adhesive once and quickly realized it was going to be a pain.
So I went with the McMaster non-adhesive.
Sprayed the inside of the tube with 3M Super 77 adhesive.
Rolled the flocking up tight around a broomstick
Placed the broomstick down through the center of the tube
Unrolled and pressed flat with the broomstick
I've been through this process several times now and always worked like a charm

Leica eyepieces and fast scopes.

Posted By Greg Elspas

I used a 14mm and 22mm Leica with the 2" adapter on both a Starmaster 10" EL and a Borg 125ED. Excellent EPs, especially the 14mm. The 14mm has really been my favorite EP for many nights of viewing. It is one of the most comfortable EPs I've ever used, excellent contrast and clarity on axis and the color of the stars just seemed purer/whiter than many other widefield EPs I've used. They are, however, soft at the edges and more so in a fast scope. The SM 10" was f/6 and I noticed some seagulls at the edges (maybe outer 10%). I never had the chance to try in something like a f/4.7 but would expect it to be more noticeable.
Unfortunately, I recently changed to a binoscope where the Leicas seemed a tad on the big side (they are heavy and a bit on the wide side for binoviewing) so I ended up selling them. I would think that in a slower scope, the 14mm would be hard to beat. I'll second Owen's comment in that I sometimes wonder if I should have sold the 14mm.

Black Forest Star Party

Posted By Greg Elspas

I will be attending again this year.
Last year was my first visit and in-between the rain on Friday and the heavy dew on Saturday evening I didn't get too much viewing time in. However, what little viewing I did get in was spectacular. Hoping for clearer skies this year.

Custom Eyepiece Case Makers?

Posted By Greg Elspas

I recently had a very nice cherry wood case made by Bluemoon Woodcrafts. Highly Recommended.

Barska 50mm Red Dot finder scope

Posted By Greg Elspas

The Baader SkySurver V is a modified 40mm gun sight and works very well. I've used one for about a year now. It has 11 brightness settings and the lowest is actually quite dim. Better than squinting through a smaller red-dot.

Black Forest Star Party....Who's In?

Posted By Greg Elspas

I'll be there with my TScope and Borg. This will be my second year attending.
Yes, the weather has been dismal this year. Can only hope things clear up.
