Most people who get COVID-19 are unvaccinated. However, since vaccines are not 100% effective at preventing infection, some people who are fully vaccinated will stillget COVID-19. An infection of a fully vaccinated person is referred to as a “breakthrough infection.” This just keeps going on and on There Rod So what now?
I think that basic probability theory applies here as to how folks should strategize.
Unvaccinated people are quite a bit more likely to catch Covid but a few unvaccinated folks won't catch it at all.
A few vaccinated people will catch Covid but they are much more likely to not catch it.
Unvaccinated people who do catch it are much more likely to have severe symptoms but a few will only have benign or minimal symptoms.
Vaccinated people who do catch it are much more likely to have benign or minimal symptoms but a few will have severe symptoms.
I will choose the strategy which 1) reduces my statistical odds of catching it in the first place and 2) reducing the statistical odds of severe symptoms if I do become a 'breakthrough case'...
And that is to get vaccinated and get my boosters.I think those who choose not to get vaccinated because 'breakthrough cases exist so why bother with the vaccine' are rolling dice stacked heavily against them.
