How's Wuhan World Going In Your State?

Trump ignored the crisis for months and dismissed it as no more severe than the seasonal flu. He could have taken actions to prepare, but instead, he was more worried about spooking the markets. To put it bluntly, he has been derelict in his duty. That is not political; at this point, it's just a self-evident truth. Have you been watching the daily press briefings? They are a joke and resemble a pep rally with hostages whose only real purpose is to shower, the dear leader with praise. Occasionally, Pence, or Fauci, or Birx will attempt to interject some reality, but inevitably Trump starts babbling and thinks he can word salad his way out of tough questioning. Either that or he plays the bully or spouts more nonsense about anti-malaria drugs being a miracle cure because he saw it on Fox news. This behavior is not leadership. It's pathetic at best.

In other words, he's making us all part of the global effort for joint assistance. Truly a world leader, wouldn't you say?...
Don't worry, Rod; free markets will ensure that the allocation of resources occurs efficiently and to where they are needed. Those tariffs that have made it harder to get medical supplies in the country, they are paying for themselves right now. Don't believe scientists and public health policy experts and frontline health workers and executives. A reality TV star with zero government experience and decades of documented fraud and pathological lying has got it under control.

I Agree With Bolton On This One

There is no doubt that China bears some responsibility, but that in no way absolves the Trump administration for causing the slow-motion train wreck we are currently witnessing in our own country. They had plenty of time to prepare and plenty of time to act.

For example, why won't Trump just go ahead and put into effect the DPA? He has told us he has, but all available evidence is he has not. The continued lying and misinformation is no surprise, but why delay it any further? Is it because the hardest hits are in CA and NY right now, and he wants to punish Pelosi and Schumer? Is he buying time to ensure his friends and donors in the private sector have time to benefit financially? Is he saving it for the swing states? Is it because he wants to be able to loudly proclaim that free-markets provided and federal intervention wasn't necessary? Whatever it is, it is criminal that we still don't have enough testing or medical supplies in place. Trump is lethally incompetent, and I don't believe anything coming out of this administration unless it's coming from Dr. Fauci.

Fort Worth just closed all but essential services; groceries, pharmacies, and necessary medical facilities are all that remain open. I have to give props to Betsy Price for making this call. Undoubtedly, the suburbs in and around Fort Worth will be conforming to similar actions.

The Hammer and the Dance..... Why mitigation is not enough.

The drop on March 20th is indeed good news; I hope it's not just a statistical anomaly. By the way, I would never have called you a pollyanna if you had not referred to yourself that way in the past. I thought it was a moniker you wore with some pride. I did not intend it as a slur or in disrespect. My apologies if it came across that way.

On Edit: Dallas Co. just issued a shelter in place order. I assume Tarrant County (Fort Worth) will not be far behind. Hopefully, this will keep the spread under check until testing can catch up and be used to restart healthy societal life.

The travel bans and the interruptions in air travel wrecked the economy as much or more than social distancing or shelter-in-place orders. Yet Trump supporters have defended them and touted them as penultimate decisions that saved America from a deadly pandemic. Who ordered all those travel bans? Trump did, of course. So, on the one hand, you claim the "hysteria" is purposeful and designed to remove Trump from office. Still, on the other hand, you defend actions that harmed the economy significantly merely because they were carried out by Trump? The level of inconsistency on display here is astounding. Are Italy, Spain, and France in on this plot to destroy Trump too? I imagine Iran must be part of this plot as well. If the US government had appropriately prepared when they first found out what was coming back in December or January, then all of this "hysteria" as you like to call it would have been far less necessary. That lack of preparation, and the insistence on pretending the impending crisis did not exist, has done far more harm than any "hysteria."

It's incredible how much you can misinterpret what someone says. I didn't criticize the travel bans. I merely pointed out that the travel bans are as much to blame for the wrecked economy as anything else. Yet you and Trump supporters love them.

What you see is what you get with me, unlike you who portrays himself as something he's not.

I don't make snide little comments to people the way you do to me as you did here, when you made this comment:

I thought you would understand that I was reaching to something beyond your internet facade with this question.  You had mentioned before that you are not particularly nasty in real life, and I believed you.

And to the point, I'm not any bit "particularly nasty" in real life, I simply am a direct person, and with all people I'd rather address them directly so there is no confusion. Call it being blunt.

I have no problem with your snide personality.  I recognize that is how you operate, making pussy-like insinuations about me on a regular basis.  That's fine if that's your persona.  I really don't care.

Personally, I think you understand what I think of you.

As for Mike Rosen, I do like him and I think we are lucky to have VD Hanson as one of the intellectual giants out there.  I certainly don't see his (VDH) position and my own as much different.

Nor don't find any of his commentary to be far from my thoughts.

Rosen, I haven't heard in the past few weeks, however when I have had the opportunity to hear his commentary in the last few years, he has explained himself as understanding that Party Trumps person (his standard credo).

I find that he and I are still very compatible in our views, however let me just say this.

If he were to be a never Trumper, I would totally disagree with him and disavow his views.  I don't base my politics, nor do I base my principles on the views of others around me.  -

I'll take this opportunity to make this observation about you.  You seem to want to present yourself as some sort of Svengali when it comes to reading people here on the forum.  Maybe you're just SO self-absorbed with your own importance, that it blinds you to the political positions of others around you, so I'll just posit this observation of mine.

You told me quite some time ago that Forrest was a "staunch conservative".  Recently, you made the ridiculous claim that he and you were very similar in your political ideology, but had "drifted apart over the years".   LOL!

If you truly believe that statement above, then you are utterly naive IMO. That man's view have not changed.  He's been a leftist progressive bordering on a socialist for as long as I can remember.

Therefore I would simply submit that your perceptions of others here are really not that bright, nor are they accurate, nor are they very intuitive.

I'm sure that you really pride yourself on being able to "read" people, but lately you've truly been OFF the mark.

Can I tell you that without hurting your feelings?

Lastly, the same goes with your understanding of and your assertions about Russ Carroll.  You told me on more than a half dozen occasions that he was one of the most conservative people on this forum.

Again, your intuition seems to have been utterly off the mark with him as well, unless of course you consider a person who voted for Hillary Clinton and one who proudly joined the Democrat party, boasts about it, and criticizes the Republicans as garbage, as a "very conservative individual".

Personally, I find him to have gone off the reservation so to speak.

If you think that definition that describes him to describe a "conservative" then you need to reevaluate your position on that.

As far as this conversation goes this evening, I'm not really interested in having any rational discussions with you.  In fact your position a few weeks back telling me that I am Irrational and Forrest is rational, tells me all I need to know about your intellect.

In other words, it really ain't much!    tongue

P.S. one last thing, since you believe that the supposed "risk to the healthcare system is WORTH the utter destruction of this economy, and justified???????????

You truly are an absolute idiot.

This post of Richard's is a perfect example of when to practice social distancing. Everyone, please stay at least six feet away. Otherwise, exposure to delusions, entitlement, and exaggeration, misinterpretation, name-calling, and trolling are inevitable.

But now the supposed right-to-life party wants to carry out social Darwinism, rather than do the hard work. The sad thing is that you can have a strategy to return us to a healthy society that is consistent with a return to a robust economy. This trade-off is not an either-or choice, so why is the GOP acting like it is?

This strategy is how Singapore has been managing the outbreak since day one, and they avoided the chaos almost entirely. My oldest daughter has a brother-in-law who lives and works in Singapore, and while there is a concern, life is, for the most part going on regularly. Why? Because of the early and ongoing tests and quarantine strategy they adopted. There is more to it than that, of course. Not the least of which is they had an infrastructure in place to deal with outbreak after having lived through SARS in 2003. The government also completely covers the cost of the containment. They communicate clearly and consistently; they don't put out the wrong information, and they rally around and support health care workers. This brother-in-law said he's far safer in Singapore than he would be here. I don't doubt it at all.
