Democrat Tactics at the polling place at new low

Posted By Mike Strieber

Windows has been around for years but it still does stupid crap. Fellas, let's not jump to conclusions here. While I don't buy the uber-sensitive screens theory, computer glitches are common place. I have to believe even Democrats would find a better way to cheat than in the open and in such an obvious way, as proven by the way people are saying...hey, wtf, when they see the screen already marked. I also have to believe it would be a little more widespread than what it is. Cheating, and the risk it involves, is not worth "several" votes. Thousands of folks have voted early here in Nevada, a campaign to steal 3 of those votes makes no sense; and to do so in such a blatantly obvious way no less. Three "complaints" out of thousands sounds to me like you might have pegged the conspiracy on the wrong folks...assuming something sinister is going on here at all. I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest you'll hear about Republican "irregularities" in machines over the next couple weeks as well. I think you guys are politically savvy enough to know these sorts of conspiracy theories run wild about this time during every election.

Vote to Recall?

Posted By Mike Strieber

Christine Canelos Welsh said:

On the ballot in Illinois is a resolution to amend the state constitution to allow voters the ability to recall a governor.

In the interest of full disclosure (lest I be accused of trolling wink ) I have to vote on this issue in less than a week. My first reaction was "heck, YES". Upon further review, I'm not so sure. Recall elections are hugely expensive, especially for states already in financial crisis (like mine), time consuming, and most likely subject to the same kind of inflammatory campaign rhetoric as regular elections. Potentially, enough people could garner enough support to remove a governor just because they don't agree with him. There is already a process in place to remove a governor that engages in allegedly criminal actions. As such, Illinois was able to remove Blago before the end of his term. Do we really need a recall provision?

And, because I am really really really not trolling here, I am looking for opinions based on legal/constitutional points of view, not bipartisan hyperbole. I would especially like to hear from residents of California, since they personally experienced a recall vote in recent history.

I'd vote yes. The citizens give them the privilege to serve, they should be able to take it away. Keeping a dysfunctional or corrupt politician in office can cause far more damage than what a special election might cost. Regardless, I don't think cost should be a driver in your decision. If I had an incompetent governor in office doing grave damage to my state I wouldn't say, "ah keep him in, it's too expensive to get rid of him". The bar to remove should be set high but the citizens should reserve that right.

Liberal or Conservative

Funny how the word "Liberal" is demonized by the far right wing. Equally funny how "Conservative" means nothing of the kind.

Both sides seek only to polarize and so paralize the country. The politicians of both sides cater to special interest groups more than to their voting constituents. Moderation and reason seem to have no voice. There have been some touting such a voice, but they too are caterers.

In this election, let's get rid of as many old criminals as possible and elect some new criminals. It's really the only way to wash out the corruption in Washington. Keep them back on their heels.

The press plays a lot into that liberal v. conservative thing Steve. It was interesting to me today as I was able to stay home most of the day and watch the news. Fox was non-stop "terrorists" while MSNBC was non-stop "Nazi" talk while showing the moveon.org activist "stomping" video. I bet I saw that video 10 times today alone on MSNBC...along with references all day to "stormtroopers", Nazis, Ed Shultz with his "the Tea Party has all their boots shined and are ready to stomp" so be careful when you go to vote crap. All signs so far indicate a pretty good job today by our security organizations, globally even, but Fox still tried their best to find fault in Obama's approach. Someone on Fox suggested Obama came out too early to inform the public of what was going on. You know they're grasping for straws when that's the best criticism they can come up with. If he spoke to the nation 15 minutes later he would have been witholding information too long I'm sure. It's getting more and more difficult to weed through the chaff of the media these days. I'm getting more fustrated with the news everyday. Both sides have a stake in playing the "fear" card. I must admit though, while Fox was a bit over the top with criticism, MSNBC today was in another league all together. Truly a sad display for a group that calls themselves a news organization. This while they call Fox a voicebox for conservatives; the hypocrisy of that network has reached new lows of late.

Have you voted yet?

Posted By Mike Strieber

I voted at 10:30am here in Vegas. There were only a couple folks there, no waiting.

There's a feeling in the air here that Prince Harry will be heading back to DC....to collect his belongings and return to NV for good. We'll see.

Palin Rebuked?

Posted By Mike Strieber

Jim Brown said:

It looks like Reid is going to win NV. Our Mike and many others predicted this at the time of the primaries. It could be that Palin and those who follow her are better at winning primarys than general elections. Same deal with O'Donnell in DE and many other races.

Although this is a huge day for the GOP, it could have been bigger.

Jim

I was just telling my girlfriend that it would have taken a super candidate (Rubio-esque) to beat Reid in NV. Reid is so established here, combined with his seniority in the Senate that Nevadans think is a significant advantage for them, I doubt Lowden would have beat him either. Reid is loved on the strip, by the casinos and the unions that work there; the casinos were busing people to the polls today (after sending out emails to vote for Reid and taking tallies on employees who voted or not...scandal accusations to follow in the next few days I'm sure). Oh well, at least Pelosi is out.

A great, historic night for Republicans regardless. Oh, and did I say Pelosi is out?

John Boehner is a sissy!

John Boehner is crying on national TV. What a sissy! Who does he think he is Tim Tebow? That's ridiculous. Man up! :S

That's "Speaker" sissy to you. I think generally speaking he's a pretty tough guy so I'll cut him some slack. Pretty big moment for him. I feel pretty confident in saying ex-Speaker Pelosi did some crying tonight as well. grin

Apparently old Keithy just couldn't help himself: $2,400 each to the campaigns of Democratic Congress-critters in Arizona (2) and Senate candidate in Kentucky...

one of them right after they were his guest!

The REAL reason he's suspended without pay? He got CAUGHT, and this is too much confirmation of the built-in bias at MSNBC for even their management.

What a LOSER.

I'm not sure I agree but many are suggesting COMCAST, as the new owner of MSNBC, was behind this. There are rumors of a big purge and redirection for MSNBC under the new ownership. Clearly their ratings suggest they need to do something. I guess if they allow him back that would give an indication of COMCAST's plans.

I find it ironic though that something like this might be his demise. I guess they were ok with his deceit, fabrication, and total distortion of the truth. Kind of like finally nailing Al Capone for tax evasion of all things. wink

UFO's Debunked!

It's a really cool show, I've seen it. It was real interesting in that they were able to interview the German test pilot who flew it in 1944.
