What if it decides to get smarter and starts writing all sorts of expansion packs for itself, adding hardware upgrades and evolving into some sort of hyper-intelligent being? Will we be out-evolved, out-moded? Or would it revere humanity as its 'creator'?

Not with any of the "rules" that we gave it.

Rule #1: If you think it can harm you kill it.
Rule #2: If you feel that it will harm your food supply kill it.
Rule #3: If you feel that it will end up costing you more money kill it.
Rule #4: If you feel it will challenge your religion or government kill it.
Rule #5: If in doubt about any of the previous rules, kill it.

Just curious, did your dad happen to be taking oral Prednisone? That in itself might account for the aorta going gunny sack on him.

Considering the distance involved the only "stereo" effect that you could achieve is using the orbital circumference of the earth. In other words, shooting one photograph in the spring an another 6 months later in the fall. Even then the "stereo" would only work on the closest stars and not much of that.

That sequence has been the downfall of great churches, governments and empires.

This is wrong, wrong, wrong.

The city confiscates private property for next to nothing and then turns around and sells it for profit to a developer, who in turn makes a bundle of cash on his development.

Private property confiscation for municipal use is justified, but confiscation for property transfer from one private citizen to another is a total corruption of what was intended by the constitution. Shame, Shame, Shame.

Big money makes it again at the expense of the individual.
