Trump is acting like a disabled person to mock people. It's disgusting anyway you express it regardless who he is mocking.

Bloomberg seems to me, at least at this point in time, to be much more like a polished and reserved Donald Trump than he is like Bernie Sanders.

So, I think it comes down to this - if Bloomberg gets the nomination because Bernie is too radical, Mayor Pete is too young, Amy Klobuchar is too frumpy (I guess, I think she is the D's best choice) can he win by attracting moderate Rs away from Trump even if Bernie's 25% of the base revolt and stay home or vote for Trump out of pique?  Seems risky to me.

Whatever happens with Bloomberg, you have to admit he doesn't take any grief from Trump. Take a look at this latest exchange on Twitter for example:

@realDonaldTrump
- we know many of the same people in NY. Behind your back they laugh at you & call you a carnival barking clown. They know you inherited a fortune & squandered it with stupid deals and incompetence.

I have the record & the resources to defeat you. And I will.

Mini Mike is a 5’4” mass of dead energy who does not want to be on the debate stage with these professional politicians. No boxes please. He hates Crazy Bernie and will, with enough money, possibly stop him. Bernie’s people will go nuts!

Mel,

You are missing the larger point. Even if you could convince someone that Trump was not mocking disabled people, what about all the other hundreds of times he has engaged in cruelties and horrors in just the last three years? Can you make excuses for and defend all of them? He'a horrible human being. Case closed.

And I'm showing that you are disingenuous at best when you claim Trump was not mocking his appearance. Trump has derided the looks of hundreds of people in the last three years; most recently, he mocked Mike Bloomberg for only being 5'4" tall. Even if you are right, and you are not, that Trump was not mocking the disabled reporter, it does not clear Trump of the total of all of his disgusting behavior. The man is a disgrace to the human race.

Mel,

As said in response to Jim earlier today, I don't care if you support Trump because you like his policies. That is anyone's prerogative, and politics always makes for strange bedfellows. However, supporting a politician because you want his policies to win the day, does not mean you also have to defend and make excuses for all of his disgusting behavior. I would compare Trump to a pig, but honestly, that would be insulting to the pig.

I don't either, and of course, that is not what my overall point is. I think even an average reader can understand that what I'm saying is that you can support Trump's policies and not support his horrible behavior. Those positions are not in conflict with one another. In fact, why try to make excuses or defend any of them? Even if you are successful in one case, there are hundreds more to consider, and it's a losing battle. See? That's not so hard to understand. I will never know why you guys want to parse word-by-word what someone says, and then find some small rhetorical chink to use as a bludgeon and pretend that you have exposed some great weakness that allows you to win the day. I suggest rather than trying to score cheap points, stay on track with the more significant theme of the discussion.

It's up to us, Americans. Do we love the Constitution or not? Is it worth defending at the ballot box or not? We'll see.

Trump is no juggernaut. He is dangerous to the rule of law, but he is also highly unpopular. The last five polls have him at an approval rating of 41, 40, 50 (Rasmussen), 41 and 50. The 538 aggregate is still holding steady at 43. He could again win, of course, none of us has a crystal ball, but my guess is he will lose the popular vote by even more than the historically significant amount of 2016. This unpopularity makes it very hard to win the electoral college. Not impossible, of course, but extremely difficult. And does anyone think that Trump is going to somehow change in the last eight months of his term and suddenly have a surge in popularity? It's only going to get worse.

Did you say something? It's hard to hear you over Bloomberg counting the billions of dollars more he has than Trump.

I didn't read your reply since I'm too busy planning my monthly Democratic dinner at my house. Not only will we claim to support the working class while enjoying our ruling class privileges, but we will also discuss killing babies, promoting higher taxes, and taking guns away from everyone. I'm sure our love of crime and open borders, and socialism, in general, will also be a hot topic. I would invite you to join us, but it is a long drive. If you do come, please bring an appetizer or dessert that is vegan and gluten-free. I'll be making lattes with soy-milk for everyone and have some crunchy tofu cookies. Cheers!

Mike Pence gathers scientists and doctors to fight Corona virus....just kidding - they're gonna pray it away..

Hi Dave,

Prayer is not an effective way to deal with Coronavirus. However, I've looked into this claim that Pence tried to pray away HIV in Indiana, and that's not what happened. What did happen is there was a suggestion to enact a needle buyback program to stop the spread of infection. Pence was reluctant at first and did say he wanted to pray about it before making a decision. However, he did not try to pray away HIV, and ultimately the buyback program was implemented.

I do have a problem with the way the administration is trying to control the messaging coming out of the press briefings. The one yesterday, for example, was just bizarre. It was evident that everyone there was coached to pour out nauseating praise on the dear leader. I also found it odd how they spent so much time making sure we all knew how happy they were to be a part of the team. It was like they were all fearful for their job if they didn't show the proper amount of enthusiasm. There is an actual WH press release from Mike Pence filled with nothing but Tweets praising Trump's response. It's clear this is all for an audience of one and gives a glimpse into what it must be like to work in an administration where the top priority is personal loyalty. I would much rather the experts be able to be direct and candid instead of having to put on an elaborate display of false praise and be worried about suffering consequences if they don't show obsequious deference to Trump.
