Tube material

Posted By Evan Reed

Too bad. I have a stripped Newt with the right ID, but not nearly long enough as you would need. I know there is a company named Acme Spiral wound paper products that can make you sonotubes to ANY custom ODs and IDs within reasons. I would keep this in mind as a last resort, as it is not your cheapest option, and to be honest their service is really terrible. Only use them if there is a specific tube that you absolutely need to be a certain size, and you can't find it anywhere else. Their website is "acmespiral.com"

I own one of the older Meade Schmidt Newts, an MTS-SN8. Basically the older 8" version of Meade's newer ones. It is a very fast scope, f/4, and when properly collimated the views are impressive, IMO. They beat the 8" Meade SCT I had in image clarity, contrast and quality alltogether. But what I really like it for is astrophotography, esp with its fast f ratio.

DOB Tube material

Posted By Evan Reed

I happened to come across a PVC tube from a guy I worked with that doesnt have a use for it. I picked it up planning to build a 10" newt with it, although it is very heavy, and I dont think I will use it. I would maybe look into using a thin walled PVC tube (would be much lighter) - it would make a very sturdy tube!

PS - if you happen to be interested in the tube, send me a message!

Trouble Posting Feedback

This has happened to me before. Perhaps you could have him re-reply to your ad...this should allow you to post feedback.

Two accounts and/or multiple computers

Just don't go for the 2 accounts method. You can have a computer save your login - I've never tried it with computers from different sites though.

Maybe a flat rate charge?

Posted By Evan Reed

Everyone has interesting points. IMHO, the best idea presented in this thread so far (after the honor system - no disrespect Herb, it is great, and once I get out of school and have the money to spare, I have every intention of sposoring!!!) is the registration fee (I mentioned this in another forum). Something like a flat rate, as mentioned, could be unfair to some. Also a per-ad fee would only charge those using the ads, and not the forums. The only way I can see making a manditory fee fair is to have it manditory at registration. (this would also help deter people from having multiple accounts!) I look over and see that 758 new users were registered this month alone...the fee wouldn't need to be hefty! The biggest concerns that pops into my head are, do you charge the people already registered, and will this deter people from signing up??? Although I would be willing to pay, I'm sure some already registered would not. Thanks for listening (reading)

Nice work with that mount setup!...I wouldn't mind getting a closer look at how you made the GEM!

Lasers for shutting down streetlamps

Posted By Evan Reed

Has anyone seen the movie "Entrapment" where they disabled the motion sensors using the lasers? Well, my dream is to have a setup much like that to hit all the streetlights around my house. I'm working through the schematics of it now...I would need something to point 4 lasers in independently controllable directions, and hold them there...If it ends up working, I could patent it, and sell them here on AMart...I'm sure they'd be a hit!!! wink

You could try asking here, although I don't know how much help it will be. Good luck.
