1.002X OCA

Posted By Pat Gillies

Hi Glen. Is this the same or similar item that Harry talks about in this post? I don't want to misquote so here it is in it's entirety.

"I had a unit similar to this on my web site about 3 months ago and have just taken it off not too long ago. It was a 1.05x. I rarely sold them. And mine was too long (4"+) and I found they stuck a little into the optical path. My unit required entirely too much intravel. My unit required a full inch of intravel. I may put it back on my web site just to offer it as an alternative. But I will probably recommend people stick with my 1.3x unless the lower mag is an absolute must. I never made it down to 1.0x although I was extremely close. I found the closer you got to 1x the harder it was to squeeze optical quality out of the unit.

Harry Siebert"

If it is, he doesn't seem too fond of his unit.

Denk standard vs Denk II?

Posted By Pat Gillies

Hi Doug. One night last August, in reasonably good seeing and at a dark sky sight, I had the chance to compare both the standards and the II's. Using my NS11 and a pair of 25 Orthos in each unit I could see only a marginal difference in brightness in favor of the II's. I tried on a couple clusters, nebulae and a planet. With my 50+ year old eyes
the views at the eyepieces were very close. I really liked the adjustable diopter EP holders and have since added one
(yes 1 only) to my standard.

Future of Binoviewing ?

Posted By Pat Gillies

Hi Brian. I think binoviewing is really starting to catch on. There are people that were naysayers or that had tried it years ago and had written it off, but have tried it again and now sing the praises. The equipment has improved a lot. Neat new accessories are being developed, checkout the Siebert 6 in 1 and the Denkmeier Power Switch (gotta get me one of those). It still isn't for everyone, but everyone should at least give it a shot.

The Tele Vue unit you mentioned was called the Bizzario I believe. Wasn't Tom Hole going to build one with a Burgess scope?

Celestron did/does have a binoviewer although not just for
their SCT's. Here is a pic...

Your skies how dark?

Posted By Pat Gillies

At my location, about 60 miles west of Toronto Ontario, I can name all the stars I can see, all five of them. Honestly though, on a good moonless night, naked eye, I can make out all but one or two of the stars in the little dipper.

New observation site.

Great site Floyd, I am jealous. What is the altitude? Do you haul all that gear in your trailer behind one of your scooters? smile

"going to K-Mart or Katmandu"

Cool ride Tony. My guess is that you could get to K-Mart
by way of Katmandu in that rig.

Denk Power Switch

Your right Guy, it does sound like a cool accessory. If they
have any for sale at NEAF I'm going to get me one.
