Liberals will love this...

Posted By Forrest Heinle

While i've been vigorously defending Fox as of late, i cant help but note that you're right, Mike. I was rather perturbed to say the least when i saw those headlines, as well as their up front main stories constantly calling the stimulus bill the "spendulus" bill. Worse was the one that i saw that was making a big stink about Obama's comments on something Biden had said in an earlier interview. It felt awful manufactured. Could Obama have meant what they were implying? Sure, but he could have meant a number of other things as well. All in all, i've been rather irritated with them this week. I want objective, not Rush. I'll listen to Rush and Glenn if that's what i want.

Speaking of Glenn, i must disagree with you and his views. Over the past couple of years, he's proven to be remarkably accurate in some of his statements. He was light years ahead of anyone else when it came to the economy and the current collapse we're suffering from. He was saying we were in for a hard crash when the DOW was at 13,000 and rising. Everyone said he was on the nut wagon. Not so much now, hmmmmmm? So while the Mexico comments might sound crazy (i would agree with you there) i wouldn't dismiss him out of hand. He has an uncanny ability to dodge all the partisanship and see right to the core of what's going on. I'm not sure how much you listen to his radio show, but if you did, you'd realize that he's not in the vein of Rush and Hannity, he's much more about what he feels is right and wrong, not what is left and right.

Palin Owes Back Taxes

Not quite the same circumstances as Daschle and Geithner, but i'll give you an "A" for effort in trying to paint it as the same picture.

Now if she comes out and insists on not paying it, we'll have something to talk about.

Arnold just ticks me off. I bet you all can't wait until you're able to say "Hasta la vista, baby!"

The GOP Comic Book

Posted By Forrest Heinle

We'll see where this goes. While the survey's he quotes seem to be very compelling, i believe you'd find that a large majority of the country is still broken along the lines of how they voted in the presidential election. Some portrayed that as a landslide, yet the actual percentages were much too close to ever be truly considered that, unless you're just drinking koolaid and spouting the party line.

I fear that at some point, a large portion of this country is going to decide they can do without the goons in D.C., either Republican or Democrat, and then God help us when they start to act on their feelings of disenfranchisement. A lot of conservatives spent their lives supporting the Republicans, only to now realize they're no better than the alternative, so there's no real point who you vote for. It's either a big spending, big government democrat who's dishonest about being a closet solicialist, or it's a big spending, big government republican who's dishonest about being a conservative. That's no choice. That's like someone telling you to play Russian Roulette yet putting a round in every chamber when it's your turn.

A New Day for Science

Posted By Forrest Heinle

While i tend to agree, Paul, I'm not sure this is all peaches & cream. Science and Knowledge are dangerous things in the wrong hands, and allowing them to go unchecked with very little oversight could have disastrous results. (not talking about stem cell research here)

State of Talk Radio in America

Posted By Forrest Heinle

A good piece, or so it seems to me. Does a nice job of stating the facts without politicizing things (for the most part)

I would believe going forward you're going to find Glenn Beck to continue an upward shot. I realize there are some here who don't care for him but he's my favorite to listen to by far. He has a rather twisted sense of humor, something that isn't for everyone but it fits me to a T. I wish his TV show weren't on at 5, but from what i've heard, that hasn't really hurt his ratings, which according to him, have been phenomenal.

I believe you'll find that the angrier people get with the goons in D.C. not listening to them, the more popular Rush and his ilk will become. I just hope they preach what Beck is preaching, that is, peacefully demonstrate your anger and lack of confidence in our elected officials.

Tea Party Anyone.....

Posted By Forrest Heinle

This is the entire reason i was against bailouts to begin with, because Obama and the government are doing exactly what we knew they would....they're stepping in and telling private companies how to run their business. The thing is, they have a RIGHT to do this, because the government has invested billions of dollars into the company to keep it afloat, therefore they should be able to tell them on a reasonable scale what they can and can't do.

Now we have a conflict where AIG is doing what i bet they've always done for years, hand out big bonuses at the end of the year to employees who did their jobs and met certain criteria to earn said bonus. Unfortunately, their company is now only pseudo private, because they're running on taxpayer dollars and the government is stepping in and demanding no bonuses until they are on fiscally sound footing again. It all makes sense, but it doesn't change the fact that the government is telling a private company how to spend their money(yeah, i know it's taxpayer money at this point), a precedent that is very very bad. I'm not saying Obama doesn't have a good heart in this, i simply don't want someone to take the precedents he sets and spring board off them to do something we'll all end up regretting.

Time Out

Posted By Forrest Heinle

Yeesh, i'm gone for a few days and look what happens.

I seem to recall telling Richard and Patrick to play nice as they were on the edge of out of hand when i left. Seems they both decided that jumping off the cliff was much more fun than taking the long way down.

Perhaps we should erect a cage and let them have five 3 minute rounds? Winner gets a new Ethos of their choosing?

GOP=Got 0 Plans

Posted By Forrest Heinle

I seem to recall a time when the GOP was in power and what did the Democrats do? *GASP* That's right, bitch and moan! No plans, just whining. Pot meet kettle....kettle, pot.

That being said, none of this solves any problems. Saying something won't work is all fine and dandy, but if you actually want to look good, you need to layout your plan that's right, not simply harp on their plan that's wrong.

Another reason that Republican politicians will keep losing until they finally realize they've lost their base. If they ever do.

The Iranian Response To Obama

Posted By Forrest Heinle

You know, i don't have a problem with diplomacy....i just have a problem with burying your head in the sand and trying diplomacy over and over and over with no results. "Well....maybe if we just give them a few more concessions...."

It's that inch and mile thing. Some people just can't be reconciled with. I'm not faulting Obama for trying, i just want him to realize that you gave it the effort it deserved and it didn't work, so muscle up and play hardball. North Korea has proven what happens when you give in. They just keep on doing what they were always going to do anyway, but the "deal" gives them more time to make advances without being badgered to stop what they're doing. Megalomaniacs won't change their ways, but don't let their special kind of crazy make you think they aren't smart. (Not intended as a lecture to you, Rod, just a general statement)

A big issue here is that Israel WILL do something if we just keep posturing. Iran isn't just blowing smoke when they say they want Israel gone. They WILL do it once they have the capabilities. Israel will not sit and wait for that to happen. When, not if, but when they preemptively strike, it's going to really tick off their neighbors. Another very good reason to get off oil dependence. If someone lights that powder keg, the entire Middle East could become even more inhospitable in the blink of an eye.
