2" 45 degree erect prism diagonal

Posted By Michael Tencza

I am asking for a friend who is setting up a spotting scope with an 80 mm telescope. What recommendations do you have for an erect prism diagonal?

Visible Central Obstruction

Posted By Michael Tencza

I have a Celestron 130 mm f/5 Newtonian that works pretty well as a light, quick look telescope from my garage. I notice though that the secondary mirror is visible in the plane of focus when using long focal length eyepieces (40 and 32 mm). This is especially annoying in daylight. 1) What is causing this, and 2) aside from looking around this obstacle to see what I want is there anything else that can be done to deal with this that is not costly.

10.5 mm Pentax XL or 9 mm T6 Nagler?

Posted By Michael Tencza

These are very similarly priced on the used market. I am looking for something to fit between my 13 mm T6 and Pentax 7 mm XL. Which would you choose?

Am I Insane or What?

Posted By Michael Tencza

I have a set of mostly TV eyepieces (27 and 19mm Panoptic, 13 and 9mm T6, 4 and 3mm Radian) with the Pentax XL 7 and 5.2mm mixed in. Would it be crazy to switch to a Nagler 7mm and 5mm Radian to get lighter and parfocal eyepieces in the set or should I leave well enough alone. Let me know if this is reasonable or recommend a good shrink.

Sturdy Alt-Az Mount Head

Posted By Michael Tencza

I am researching Alt-Az mount heads for a friend who wants to attach one to his surveyor's tripod. He wants one with smoothly functioning coarse and fine controls. It would be a plus if it has a standard camera bolt also.

Re: Out of gas

That's a very serious consideration when designing any new fuel system. I think the engineers will need to brainstorm a solution here. A small portable battery should be able to run a car temporarily to get it to a recharging station, but the other systems...? Great point Jim.

Current Gas Usage Decrease, Will it Make a Differe

Posted By Michael Tencza

Since we are in a severe recession and the demand for gasoline is reduced, is there anyone saying this will have a favorable impact on global warming? Just a thought...

Aperture and Seeing Conditions

Posted By Michael Tencza

Can anyone explain why large aperture telescopes are so sensitive to the prevailing seeing conditions? I was at a recent star party and Saturn actually looked better through the smaller telescopes even though the sky seemed transparent.

6" f/8 to f/5

Posted By Michael Tencza

I own an Orion 6" f/8 reflector and would like to turn it into an f/5 OTA. Would it be feasible to reconfigure the original mirror (preferably would like a pro to do it) or would this be too expensive?

Classical vs XLT Coatings

What is the difference in brightness using a C8 and what would this mean at the eyepiece?
