19mm or 22mm panoptic

The 19mm Panoptic was the finest DSO eyepiece I have ever used.....unfortunately I couldn't handle the eye relief. I'm now using an 18mm Radian. Great eye relief and almost as good.

I've had a few questions over the past couple of years regarding tThe Sky and have found their technical support email route to be outstanding. Chances are you will correspond with one of the principals and these guys know their stuff and will work on your problem. Outstanding company!

Now, if you want to give up on the Pocket Edition....I've got a Jornada 520 series I'd love to try it on! (If it's possible to sell a downloaded product.) I think they also have some kind of a money back offer.

How to see the GRS?

Hi Tom,

A good reference for GRS viewing is the Sky & Telescope website. Under Sky Observation, (Sky at a Glance) weekly schedule by day, they indicate the +/- 2 hour crossing times for the GRS. It's not observable that often during prime time.

Nice red star

Hi Darian,

I've been interested in red stars as well. The reddest one I've seen is R Lepus which is a variable and near peak at this time.

Sometime back an article entitled "The 'Coolest' Stars" by Jack Kramer was referenced here in the forums. I printed a copy from

I concur. The NSOG is my prime resource. From a practical point of view, my urban sky observing seldom allows the seeing of 10+ mag deep sky objects with my 8" SCT.

Barlow poll

I have a full complement of Radians for my 8" SCT and use both the TV 2x barlow and 2.5x PowerMate for spliting difficult doubles. Depending on the night, either will be more of less effective than the other. I've not tried to calibrate conditions versus relative performance.
