Young Hawk

This hawk lives in our neighborhood (in the middle of Oklahoma City) and has been hanging out next door to keep an eye on the bird feeder there. Of course, he wants to eat the birds, not the feed! I think it is a young red tail hawk, but I'm not sure. Any ideas?

This beautiful guy lives in our neighborhood in the middle of OKC, and likes to hang out near my neighbor's bird feeder. He was just fluffing up when I snapped this photo. Dan K helped me with the identification. Thanks for looking, comments are welcome.

Flame Nebula with C11

Hey, everyone...
Here is a shot of the Flame Nebula in Orion, 4 x 5 min at ISO 1600 with a stock Nikon D70 through my C11 @ f/6.3. Manually guided with a tandem C 130 Mak on a G11 mount. More images from a recent dark-sky trip are posted on the Nikon forum. Thanks for looking, comments are welcome!

PS CS2 HDR Merge?

Hey, everyone! Has anyone tried using The automated HDR merge function in PS CS2 to combine images of different exposure times? I just learned about it last night from my non-astronomer-but-computer-graphics-geeky nephew. I tried it with five images of M42 I took last week...240 s, 180s, 120s, 60s, and 30s through my C11 @ f 6.3, ISO 1600 with a stock Nikon D70. I think it has promise! Comments and feedback welcome!

Stiletto Repair

Hey, everyone. I bought a used Stiletto IV here on AM a couple of years ago. When I was out in the dark two weeks ago, I banged into the body of the Stiletto while it was attached to my scope, and it broke apart. I contacted Richard at STI, and for a mere $10 (for shipping back to me) he replaced the damaged parts. I am still in a state of amazement that this sort of service from a dealer exists today! He has a good reputation, I know, and he deserves it. A good product, and someone to back it up!
