M81 color AP130F8.35

Posted By jeff OMeara

Hi all,

I took some color data and some more luminance on my M81 shot. I still can't seem to get the color in the stars that I'm looking for.

This is 300:180:180:180 LRGB all 5 min subs binned 1x1
AP 130mm F8.35
ST-10XME CFW8a with Astrodons
G11 Gemini level 4
TCF-S
shot using CCD commander.

cheers,

Jeff

cloudy sky blues

Posted By jeff OMeara

I was hoping to get more data on this before sharing, but the skies have not cooperated in months.
This is B33 - 5h luminance; AP 130 F8.35; G11; ST-10XME.

Hoping to see some clear skies soon.

First image with my Ovision modded G11

Posted By jeff OMeara

Hi all,

Finally got a chance to install my new worm - installation went smoothly. I'll do a more systematic evaluation of its performance during the next full moon. For now I can only say that the guided tracking appears significantly improved. I managed to take 12 x 5 min of M51 before the clouds moved in again. I've attached a 40% crop of the galaxy itself. I hope to get color data later this week (its actually supposed to be clear - wow!).

Lum: 12 x 5 min M51
ST-10XME
AP 130mm F8.35
G11-O

M13 with AP 130mm F8.35

Posted By jeff OMeara

Hi all,

I've been spending quite a bit of my very limited imaging time trying to optimize my setup. I'm happy to report that my Ovision modified G11 is tracking great (~ 4" peak to peak). After significantly improving my polar alignment I can now do 4 minute (one complete worm cycle) unguided exposures (at FL~1100)which look quite good. I have been able to improve the tracking to just under 2" peak to peak with PEC, however I discovered that my Gemini L4.100 does not remember where it is in the worm cycle after a power down (doh!) I have just received the updated EPROM which will solve this issue, but I am waiting until the next full moon to install and test it. My autoguiding has also noticeably improved. Anyway, now that the system is behaving better, the weather has not really cooperated. The clouds parted for a couple of hours this week which allowed me to get some data. The transparency was 2/5 and seeing 3/5.

M13
25 x 2 minutes luminance; binned 1x1; guide interval = 3 sec; 1.26" / pixel
AP 130mm F8.35 (I love this scope!)
ST-10XME; CFW8a with Astrodon E-series filters
G11-O
Optec TCF-s

Image was collected using CCDsoft; focus with focusmax. Calibrated, aligned, data reject and initial processing in CCDstack. Levels, slight curves and saved for web in Photoshop.

I know its not the best, or most interesting image, however the tracking, I think, looks quite good and bodes well for future imaging sessions.

Let me know what you think.

cheers,

Jeff

M13 with AP 130mm F8.35 color and cropped

Posted By jeff OMeara

Hi all,

Had another clear night, but with significant moon. I got some color data for my M13 image, I've also cropped the full image to frame M13. What do you think?

cheers,

Jeff

NGC 6888 with AP130 F8.35

Posted By jeff OMeara

I had another clear night and decided to try Ha imaging with this scope. NGC 6888 started out fairly low in the north eastern sky, but the guider seemed to be doing a pretty good job even with the 10s integrations required to have an adequate guide star (I could never have integrations that long prior to upgrading my worm). So here is 27 x 10 min through an Asrodon 6nm Ha filter. AP 130 F8.35, ST-10XME, G11-O. The scope is fairly slow, so it takes a while to collect enough signal. I've just picked up the AP 0.75 telecompressor, but haven't tried it yet.

cheers,

Jeff

Been fishing - some great images

Posted By jeff OMeara

Hi all,

I just got back from my annual fishing trip (pouvoirie Ganipi on reservoir Gouin in Quebec for walleye). I have enjoyed looking at all of your images, really some fantastic work - keep them coming guys. I hope I get some clear skies soon. Fishing was great, > 400 walleye over 5 days between 5 of us, nothing too big, but non-stop action.

cheers,

Jeff

Iris with AP 130 F8.35

Posted By jeff OMeara

Hi all, just got back from vacation - had three clear nights over two weeks... oh well. Here is my first run through of the data I collected on NGC 7023. AP 130 F8.35, ST-10, G11-Ovision. LRGB 300:30:30:30 (RGB binned 2x2). I've collected another 90 min through each color filter as well, but haven't included it yet. The seeing was pretty good for a change during my luminance capture. Let me know what you think, comments and suggestions are appreciated.

cheers,

Jeff

Fishy bubble with AP130 F8.35

Posted By jeff OMeara

Hi all,

There has surly been some fantastic images posted here of late. Keep them coming, I really enjoy them all.
The weather cooperated this past weekend, although the seeing was terrible I decided to image anyhow. This is my first pass at processing the NGC 7635 data, came out a little on the salmony side, but looks promising. I also shot some M1, but haven't processed it yet.

Image details: NGC 7635 - AP130mm F8.35; ST-10XME; G11-O; HaLRGB 90:180:60:60:60 (RGB 2x2)

comments and suggestions are always appreciated.

cheers,

Jeff
