Re: replacement diagonals for LX90

Posted By David Pitre

With all due respect all SCTs I know of do not come with SCT diagonals. They come with a SCT visual back that converts the 2" SCT threads to 1 1/4" threads but also have a set screw to accomodate standard diagonals. The included diagonal is generally a standard 1 1/4" diagonal.

Used scopes-WARRANTY???

Posted By David Pitre

Not exactly "high end", but Meade's optional extended warranty is transferable. Having owned several Meades , though, I'd never buy another.

Planetary EP's on Jupiter

Posted By David Pitre

Am I wrong that the Ultima barlow does not give 2X , but is closer to 2.3X ?
Seems I've heard this from several sources.

UO Orthos not as good?

Posted By David Pitre

I've had the same very positive experiences with UO orthos (volcano top), though I have no idea of their vintage.

There is no competition for Speers Waler WAs

Posted By David Pitre

I'd agree with you given your perameters. For a little over $100., considering it's 80+ degrees AFOV, it doesn't have too much competition.
No, it's not a Pentax or Nagler. And I'd agree the TMB/Burgess planetaries are superior, but they have a substantially more narrow FOV.
My experiences have been with the longer focal lengths, though.

Nylon-tipped set-screws

Posted By David Pitre

None of these places seem to have metric sizes of nylon screws.
Any ideas ?
I'd like to replace the metal screw in my Ultima barlow and Borg focuser.

Red-dot finder suggestions?

Posted By David Pitre

Burgess Optical sells the exact same finder as WO. They do not have the elevated mount that WO has, but the Burgess finder fits the WO mount.
Excellent unit!

Celestron nexstar 11 GPS or CPC 11

Posted By David Pitre

If by GPS you mean the older nexstar series, they are carbon-fiber and do have a longer cool down time.
Great scopes though.
Same optics.

Celestron nexstar 11 GPS or CPC 11

Posted By David Pitre

Craig,
Most (not all) will agree that the Nextstar is the superior model. It has higher quality drive gears, internal power cord that rotates 360 degrees without a cord wrap problem....
That said, the tripod that came with the first Nexstar GPS units was a little shakier (they improved it with later units), and if you are buying an older model, it might not have a current handset that accepts current upgrades.
And like I said, the carbon fiber cools down slower than the aluminum.

They are both great, but I'd pick the Nexstar GPS if I had a choice sight unseen. If they were side by side I'd pick the the one with the better star test.

Takahashi accesories...a must or optional??

Posted By David Pitre

I'm in a similar boat. I just bought a FS-102.
Anyone recommend an appropriate alt/az mount?
I have a sturdy tripod. The scope has rings.
I'm considering Lapides Teegul, WO Easytouch, and a U.A. Macrostar.
