Changing mirrors.....need help

Posted By Vincent Kee

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the pointers so far. At the moment, Royce didn't want to do the refiguring and I have not heard anything from Swayze despite few emails.

I agree that the best way is to refigure while maintaining the f/ratio. Problem is getting someone to do it. If you guys know any amateurs who could do this as a freelance job or something, please let me know.

Of course, I will test the Chinese mirror before sending it for anything.

Bob,

What are the eyepieces you used to make you notice those coma?

Also, does the Parracorr cuts down the light through the eyepiece?

Thanks

Astro Sky review is posted.

Posted By Vincent Kee

Nice review Floyd!

I wanted to do the same (having done the review for the 8" Portaball in the past), but still yet to receive my scope. I hope some of these issues that you raised will bring improvements from James because I don't have any repairing facility at my end.

My mirror is still stuck with Woden, and I am already at my 8th month. Send a few emails to him but no replies. Not sure what happen to my mirror now. cwy

Anyway, the Astrosky looks great in your pictures! Mine also have a sky commander so I believe it should look like yours. I have not seen the picture of my scope, so I will just imagine yours!!

Thanks for the good and unbiased review.

Hyper-Tune, good or not?

Posted By Vincent Kee

Hi Floyd,

I had a chance to Hypertune my LXD55 few years back by the owner of LXD55.com. I think is Richard Harris, but I could be wrong. I actually wanted to do the hypertuning myself, but end up with a bushing stuck in the Dec housing while trying to put the thing back in. So no choice, contacted him and he ask me to send it in. All the way from Singapore, you won't want to know the price.

But he fixed it and the mount is good as new. He also gave a report on what he fixed and all that. There is also a nameplate saying the mount has been hypertuned.

That's a few years ago...not sure now.

Orion 180mm Mak Cass

Posted By Vincent Kee

Hi guys,

Any more info on this 7" Mak from Orion? I am impressed by the 23% secondary obstruction and was thinking of getting this one for planetary and moon due to its long FL. How good is the optics for this scope for planetary work?

Thanks
Vincent

So what's the next "big thing"

Hi all,

It seems that things have been pretty quiet on the "new thing" front for awhile. Yea I know there are always some new gadgets coming out, but no "revolutionary" things for awhile. A few years ago the GOTO scopes had a big impact, and more recently the low cost ccd imaging devices surged. For awhile I thought binoviewers might become the new hot items, but these seem to be more of a smoldering item rather than setting things on fire.

So what does everyone think will be the next truly HUGE thing?

I hope the next big thing is a mount that could do drift alignment by itself. I know it's no big deal for most people here but when you are like me in the Equator and can't see Polaris at all, drfut alignment can be a lot of work.

After a long wait, UPS delivered on the 3rd, just in time for the holiday to check it over...wonderful scope. Thanks AP! Included the Tec140 for comparison...first light tonight.

err...why are there two screws on the white body of the AP tube? Don't those screws look a bit out of place?
