Battery Hookups

Posted By Jay Emirzian

I thought you all might like to see this. I just finished an easy upgrade to a deep cycle battery I had. Three weather resistant 12V plugs with a fuse. I screwed them to a piece of birch plywood and wired it to the battery. The piece of plywood was zip tied to the battery with 2 48" zip ties. The plugs I got at Walmart and the zip ties I got at Home Depot. You could use any fuse. I did a lot of car stereo installs in the past and had the weather proof fuse in the tool box. My power needs are now ready for WSP.

Start to finish it took about an hour.

Clear skies,
Jay

HELP.....Meade 4000 14mm UWA

Posted By Jay Emirzian

Hi everyone,
I had purchased a Meade 4000 14mm UWA (newer style with eyecup) here on Astromart and had a chance to use it last night. Let me start off by saying it has MAJOR problems. This is where I need your help....

The eyepiece arrived to me packed very well so I can rule out any shipping damage. At first glance of the eyepiece it looked as if the top part of the barrel (eyecup) wasn't screwed down all the way. The threads were exposed with about a 4mm space between the rubber ring and the barrel itself. Nothing was rattling around and the barrel was not loose.

When I put it in the scope (Obsession 15" f/4.5), MAJOR astigmatism. The outer 40% was BAD. Stars were short lines. It was kidney beaning too. I have used a different 14mm UWA in my scope before and it was REALLY impressive which neither problem was evident in those eyepieces. I immediately knew there was something wrong with it.

None of the elements are broken or scratched. Could they be in the wrong configuration? Does Meade repair old eyepieces? Is there a schematic of the element design out there?

Please help……Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jay

???? About Selling NEAF Items

Posted By Jay Emirzian

Just a quick question for everyone........NEAF items sold at the Televue booth are considerably less then found here on Astromart. Al Nagler frowns upon reselling his NEAF seconds. I can understand if a particular item is not needed anymore, but what is your feeling if someone is found selling an item right after the event at a considerably higher price?

Thoughts???

Re: What are your 3 most used eyepieces?

Posted By Jay Emirzian

The three most used eyepieces in my 15" Obsession would be:

26 Nagler
14 4K UWA
7 Pentax XL

Re: Baader Planetarium Hyperion 68° Modular EP ??

I'll second that. I am using a 5 mm Hyperion in f/4.5 Obsession and it works great!!! I would deffinatly recomend them for a cheaper alternitive to the Pentax.

Which OIII Filter....

Posted By Jay Emirzian

So NEAF is comming up and I have a little extra money in my pocket to burn on some filters. Please give me your oppinions as to which you like better than others and why. I like observing Planatary Nebula so the filter would have to be able to withstand some magnification without to much image breakdown. I use a 15" Obsession for observing.

Thanks.....
