Can O Worms

Posted By Rob Moerschel

I've read plenty of good reviews regarding the C9.25 due to its longer focal length primary mirror and shorter focal length secondary mirror compared to other SCT's. I'm debating between getting this OTA and a C11 OTA. The only problem with the C11 is the resale value is horrible. The C9.25 holds its value well. The 9.25 won't have the sharpness and contrast as the TV 102, but the deep sky objects will be much brighter and planetary objects will have better resolution.

What is bad seeing?

Posted By Rob Moerschel

Bad seeing is a total idiot who mistakingly presses the gas peddle instead of the break for driving 3 strait blocks running into dozens of people, killing at least 10 in a public crowded shopping area in California. Very upsetting.

Re: LensPen trashed?

Paul,

That's great to know...gives me more confidence when cleaning my eyepieces and maybe even my APO lens.

A little Friday Humor...You poor 4" APO guys...

Posted By Rob Moerschel

Maybe its because they think us guys are always viewing heavenly bodies; or maybe they think were just spaced out.
Or maybe we pronounced URANUS to many times the wrong way.

Dobs and Light Pollution

Posted By Rob Moerschel

I have a 5" AP and once complimented it with a Discovery 12.5" DOB primarily for deep sky. The Milky way is barely visible from where I live, but there still was was a huge differece in the brightness of deep sky objects for clusters and nebula. To be honest, galaxies where not that impressive from my point of view.. and your skies (by your description) appear to be slightly more light polluted than mine. There's an interesting article in the August Sky and Telescope called Dark Skies Rule explaining aperture relative to contrast in both urban and dark sky settings.

Mars in six scopes - the scopes

Posted By Rob Moerschel

Wow...nice comparison...the 4" inch APO photo does not look impressive. Time for a PhotoShop cleanup. In fact, why even purchase any telescope equipment, everyone can design their own celestial photo from scratch in this software. Just a little exaggerated humor and general mockery on the latest technology in astrophotography that has primarily migrated from a once intellectual art of challanging perseverance to mindless mickey mouse digital devices and PC software producing unnatural images.

Planetary scopes

Posted By Rob Moerschel

Mike,

I've owned 10" Meade SCT, 12.5 PDHQ Discovery DOB, 8" SCT C8 and a couple of 6"-8" Newtonians. None of these scopes even came close to the sharpness and contrast of my 5" APO. If your primarily interested in these 2 benefits for observing planets, my opinion would be to go with the an APO. However, if you prefer brighter and more detail resolution on planets, then I would suggest a larger aperture reflector. I've looked through a recent C9.25 and it provided me the best images that I've seen through an SCT to date under 11 inches. However, the Newtonians me showed slighter sharper planetary images than the 10" and 8" SCTs.

Need new scope advice; c14, 14” LX200, 7” APO?

Posted By Rob Moerschel

Since you have the Meade AR-6 on order, I would go with the 14" SCT to better compliment your other scopes. If you prefer sharper images in an SCT, you can go with the C9.25...which will give you increased resolution and brigher images than the 7" Meade APO. Its very light weight, great bang for the buck, and you can still sit while viewing.

My 2 cents,

Rob

Light Cup, Mars and TMB SuperMono

Ron,

Nice detailed Mars review. Glad to hear you liked the sharpness and contrast of the TMB monos. Mine are on the way and I can't wait to use them.
