I got a used ED80 last week to use as a guidescope, but have been playing with it (with my Nikon D70 attached). This guy was playing hard to get.

Really, really nice.

Milt

Posted By Paul Leuba

George Feliz said:

My friend, Milton Wilcox, passed on recently after a decade-long battle with cancer. I know he was a contributor to this forum and dedicated refractor guy, and I wished to let his friends know that he was active in astronomy to the end.

Attached is a picture of Milt from this month with Magia, his 160mm TEC Flourite APO. The plaque is from his club in recognition of observing 2500 DSO's.

He will be missed.

Red Eyes and Clear Skies,

George Feliz

I am so sorry to hear this. My wife and I visited Sedona back in early November. We had dinner with Milt and Diane at a nice local Mexican place. The name escapes me right now. He and I had never previously met but corresponded often - we both have TEC160FL refractors. At the time I told him that we would be coming to Sedona and if he had any restaurant recommendations. Of course, he did, and on the first Monday we were there insisted that we eat Mexican with he and Diane.

After dinner, Milt invited us over to observe - what a treat that was. The skies in Sedona - in town - are much darker then my somewhat rural south central PA neighborhood.

The Sedona vacation was one of the best I have ever been on, and meeting Milt in person was the highlight of the trip.

This saddens me deeply.

Always Follow a Cheshire Collimation with a Star T

Posted By Paul Leuba

Lesson learned! Maybe one of the practicing opticians on this forum can give us an explanation of how the Cheshire is suppose to work and why it may give misleading results.

I think it probably relates to the lens elements behaving differently in relation to each other when pointed vertical as opposed to horizontal on a test bench.

I once had an FS152 that showed slightly different results when using a Cheshire/TAK Collimating Scope and the star test.
