Eyepieces for a C-8?

Posted By Luis De Vivero

Invest in a high quality 2 inch diagonal (ie: William Optics, TeleVue, StellarVue etc.) and purchase a 19mm Panoptic. You won't be sorry.

I bet it can't hold a candle to your Starmaster Floyd! (LOL) Very nice photo. Thanks for sharing.
BTW: What objects did you observe through the scope?

Looking for Barlow Recommendations

Aaron,
Do it right from the start. Save a few extra bucks and purchase a TeleVue 2.5x PowerMate.
You will not be disappointed! It'll likely be an accessory you'll always have regardless of which scopes you may own in the future. Best of luck, Luis

Is GOTO worth it?

Posted By Luis De Vivero

David,

It all depends on how much time you want to devote to your nightly observing sessions and what your viewing preferences are. Starhopping with motorized drives is fun when time permits. GoTo in my opinion allows you to view more objects in a shorter amount of time than starhopping with starcharts and and red flashlight. Do you want to look at 5-10 objects in a 1 hour period or 15-20? Just my 2 cents.

Celestron Advanced AVX Motor board

Posted By Luis De Vivero

Folks,

Wanted to reach out and get some insight regarded my AVX mount that died on me last night while doing a firmware update via the CFM. Had the mount plugged into a wall outlet and the red indicator light is out when turned on. The Nexstar+ hand controller is stuck on the "initializing" step during startup. Won't accept a re-flash or change back to default settings. Already went through the steps with Celestron's technical support including spreading the pin. The hand controller will light up and appears to be ok but the mount is dead. So my question is, worth spending $200 on a replacement motor board? From what I've read the electronics in these mounts appear to be flawed. Any other way to make this into a workable mount? Would like to get it to slew and track. Less concerned with the GoTo. Any insight and comments are appreciated.

Thanks,
Luis
