Holy Crap It's Close!

Posted By David Cotterell

I read elsewhere this morning that Polls have underestimated Republican support generally since at least the days of G.H.W. Bush....

You would think these companies would a), get tired of being so consistently wrong, and/or b), not be listened to by anyone with a functioning brain...

We should know the outcome by Thursday evening....

Greg:  Your deftly framed argument, deeply nuanced, well researched point of view and witty debate tactics would make William F. Buckley rise from the grave and take notes from you.

Covid numbers up due to increased testing. So say some......

Posted By David Cotterell

The increase in testing (top graph) has progressed steadily - the trend line is pretty much linear.

The number of daily cases pretty much IGNORES the above curve and is decidedly scary the last 6-8 weeks.

If increased testing is responsible for the higher reported numbers then the curves would be the same shape!!

The rest of this month and Dec. and Jan. are going to be a gigantic public health disaster.

Is this your claim?  Yes it is.

Ok then, explain how we know that there are far more numbers of infected people.

If for example we test 1 Million people, then according to you, we might find 1.5 Million people infected?  How does that happen?   ??????  No, test positive rates are in the 0.0 to 1.0% range.  see below.

Look at the vertical scales, Richard.  1.656 Million tests in one day (most recent data point on the blue graph) found about 160 000 positives in one day (most recent data point on the red graph).  This means that 1% of those tested that day were positive.  0.160/1.656 x 100 = 0.97%

Go back to Nov 1.  1.45 million tests (interpolated) and there were about 75 000 positive tests (interpolated)....    0.075/1.45 x 100 = 0.52%

The RATE of positives has doubled in two weeks.

another way of looking at it - the number of daily tests has increased in November by a factor of 1.14  while the number of daily positives has increased by a factor of 2.13 over November so far..

Covid numbers up due to increased testing. So say some......

There are numerous, frightening, life-altering conditions happening to those who survive Covid 19.

Just looking at the drop in deaths misses what happens to a great number of the survivors...

Nice history lesson, Rich,  but Jim said, "Never personally known anyone who has died from the flu."

My younger brother is a Pro Golfer.  He doesn't really compete any longer, but he's still a PGA member. He owns a Pro shop at some country club in or near Lubbock, Texas.

I never was any good at Golf.

I find it more fun to watch than to play.  I never understood the appeal though of chasing that little white ball around on grass.  It is really boring.

I'd rather watch women's golf though, because they do tend to have great legs and they don't mind showing them off.  smile
