Love my curved spider. I wouldn't go back to the 4 vane, even if it performed better. Makes me feel like I have an APO. Day to day viewing revealed no degredation in contrast or details, but did produce a lovely spikeless view. I think a side by side with exact/similar scopes would be required to quantify the differences.

Average night is a 2. Good night 4. Probably 10 times, 6. I had one night of perfect (and I really mean perfect) seeing when I got to 9+. That's in 3 years of observing.

11" Starmaster f/5.6 dob.

So, where does one discuss the merits of a particular dealer? If dealer X has burned folks, new folks should know about it. Where should this be discussed? Maybe nowhere, I guess. Just let the new guy figure it out all on his own.

I do understand the concern for this forum. Things would stay off track most of the time if allowed to discuss the unmentionable one.

While I don't disagree with your assessment of Fox, I would contend that the monicker "Communist News Network" for CNN is apropo. Certainly was bad for morale back in the day when the only live news feed we received on the carrier was CNN.

But, I find it more engaging to watch the network that presents the news in a way that I don't necessarily agree. I find it much more stimulating to watch CNN or CBS rather than watching my own thoughts being repeated back at me on Fox. Kinda the same reason I sometimes enjoy the banter at the local coffee shop more than hangin' with my buds at the officer's club. Much more fun to talk to folks who don't think like you do. Much more spirited and you realize that real people really think that way. Broadens your horizons a bit.

Nope. Not lying. The decision, as stated, is an easy one for me.

Not unlike the reason I go to the small hardware store that has been around since I can remember and pay more for the exact same thing I could get at hardware hell (Lowes, Home Depot). They are 20 minutes further away, but when I walk in, there's Mike and John and Shiela. They always say hi and I never wonder around for 30 minutes looking for something. I'll pay extra for that.

I also buy a lot of electronic equipment from my local mom and pop stores vs buying it on the internet. I could get it cheaper and faster on the internet, and I do if the price locally is too far out of whack (I consider 25% a reasonable premium for personal service). If the local guy were a jerk, I wouldn't buy from him, though.

I also make trips up to D.C. and Baltimore to visit Hands on Optics and Company 7 for astro gear. I buy most of my stuff off of here, but I like these two companies as well and would hate to see them go out of business.

Yup, I'd buy the $15 shirt, all else being equal.

Seemed like a simple question with 2 simple answers. I answered honestly.

Now had it read:

"On the shelf are two shirts, one for $15 and one for $10, I would buy the..." then I might change my answer.

Or:

"On the shelf are two shirts. One says made in the USA but might actually be made in Zimbabwae by migrant Irish workers and one says made in China but is actually made by Mexican refugees in British Columbia, but it will take you untold hours and frustration to actually figure any of this out and the made in USA/Zimabwae by Irish is $15 and the Made in China/Canada by Mexicans is $10, I would buy the..." Now that might confuse me to the point of voting for Al Sharpton for president. 8O 8O 8O
