Yes, the market is, for the most part, merely back to where it was before Trump declared "liberation day." The market declined drastically at the beginning of Trump's trade wars, and the bond market was in grave danger. The dire predictions that were made at that time assumed that Trump would not back down from his tariffs. Thankfully, though, Trump backed down, earning his "TACO" moniker, and now the stock market has largely grown accustomed to Trump's trade war rhetoric. Honestly, it's not that the predictions were wrong; it's that Trump's threats often reverse themselves and mostly seem like nothing more than noise now.

Can you even read?....

There's no point engaging with Rich when he's clearly in one of his tantrum cycles. Thread spamming with insults in his paragraph-long subject lines shows he's looking for someone to lash out at, not a conversation.

Now, I know that the market didn't crash as predicted and as you were hoping beyond hope that it would so that you could blame Trump for the crash.

Funny at the power that one man seems to have in every facet of human existence.

It is quite amazing how everything bad that happens is Trump's fault and everything good that happens is in spite of Trump, because that is how it works in your twisted mind.

Now then since the stock market didn't crash and the tariffs didn't destroy the economy, that was in Spite of Trump's attempts to do so, therefore I guess there isn't much to say about the fact that You and every other leftist fear monger was wrong, and continue to be wrong, so I'll pivot to another subject where You were hoping beyond hope that America wouid fail under Trump, and that is the military success in Iran.

Well, I can tell you this, I'd rather root for the USA rather than take the tactic you take which is trying to downplay the military actions of the USA as You and the leftist media keep doing.

I know you were the first to come on here to try and diminish the bombing success in Iran.  You did your best to downplay it, sounding like a fifth columnist rooting for Iran, hoping that their Nuclear infrastructure was still intact.

You and those like you would rather hate Trump than root for the USA.  You and another got on here and put forth the scenario that Iran moved their nuclear stockpile and so the damage done to the nuclear program was quite minimal, when in fact during a press conference with a 4 star general and the Sec'y of Defense, they described how the USA and Israel essentially annihilated the Iranian nuclear program.

Of course, You and another got on this forum and ran with the idea that those massive ordinances really didn't do much damage to the 3 nuclear sites and at best perhaps set Iran back only months if that.

There was an internal immediate damage assessment, a preliminary one by the Pentagon that indicated that the Iran nuclear program wasn't really damaged at all and that they would be back in business within weeks or months, and You and another here were apparently giddy with excitement that you would be able to douse cold water all over the mission and imply that it was an utter failure that just wasted money.

Now the reports are that this preliminary damage assessment was leaked as always by someone disenchanted with Trump and so whomever did criminally leak it, is most likely in the same frame of mindset as You and another here.  They have a beef with the administration and so they leaked ONLY the portion of the damage assessment that they wanted the Press to have.

Instead of letting the press know that the initial assessment indicated that the Iranian Nuclear program was set back months or perhaps years, the press ran with their assertion that this really didn't have much of an effect on their ability to move towards a nuclear bomb.

However the one thing that this initial assessment did indicate was that the intelligence and the report itself had a low probability of being an accurate assessment.

Did your leftist press report that?  No, of course not.  They are filled with as much hatred for Donald Trump as You and other leftists are.

Then again, isn't that the way you operate, cheering against the USA always when Trump is in office?  You cannot give this President credit for anything of course because of your massive TDS.

All I can say is that I'm cheering for my nation from the rooftops in the war against evil, while you are putting your best foot forward to try and show that this operation was a massive failure.

Not one hair on one head of our military men and women was harmed and that is a great thing!   smile

I'll stick with my support for the USA and this fantastic military that we have, while You and your ilk are free to denigrate it and the results of all military operations that prove successful.

There are few things on Earth read less than your endless one-sentence-paragraph word salads; maybe end-user license agreements, at best.

And your Austin Goolsby, the Chairman of the Kansas City Fed changed his tune on tariffs after seeing the results.

BTW Einstein, what happened to Your absurd predictions that we would be in a recession now??

I guess that is simply another instance where You are wrong.  Gosh it sure happens a great deal of the time with you lately doesn't it?  wink  smile

Haha. You want to blast Rod, but then state something blatantly wrong, like, "Vietnam, for example, placed 90% tariffs on our goods..." This statement is incorrect on multiple levels. Vietnam is a member of the WTO and has MFN status with the US, so most tariffs with them are set under these agreements, none of which exceed 90%, and these vary depending on the commodity. One that comes close to 90% is automobile imports, but this is not unique to Vietnam and is an exception, as most tariffs are significantly lower. According to WTO data, the average tariff rate for Vietnam is around 10% not 90%. Anyone who is a member of the WTO and has MFN status would charge the same tariffs on US imports. So, are we now to call you a liar, and a buffon, and an idiot, and so forth and so on. And will you admit your mistake and that you are wrong? To claim that Vietnam imposed a 90% tariff on US imports is flat-out wrong and fundamentally ignorant of trade mechanisms in the real world.

By the way, concerns about a recession at the beginning of Trump's stupid trade wars were not unfounded. Initially, business slowed, markets fluctuated, and the bond market was in disarray. What happened to the prediction that we would be in a recession right now due to Trump's trade wars is that he chickened out. He delayed tariffs, carved out exemptions, and even injected some stimulus in certain areas. And thank goodness, Trump's policies did shift in response to the pressure from the stock market and the bond market. Otherwise, the recession predictions may very well have come true.

Do you realize just how stupid you look now when YOU claimed that the tariffs were going to cause all kinds of inflation?

Where's the inflation you predicted was going to occur with the tariffs?

The inflation rate is well below the target that the Feds want to see, which is 2%.

So YOU were also wrong about the tariffs causing massive inflation.

Gee, another economic metric in which YOUR failed prediction reared its head.

Could you possibly fail on more issues than you already have?

I mean could we possibly Pile on any more failures coming from the fat mouth of our resident communist Rod Kaufman?

Are there any MORE predictions that we can count on coming out of your communist mouth?

Just curious.   smile

Do you realize how stupid you look when you continue to make the same bad-faith argument that ignores that Trump chickened out and shifted his tariff policy multiple times? He began with a lot of bluster and imposed tariffs in a ridiculously aggressive manner, causing widespread turmoil. However, once reality set in, and markets reacted poorly, as well as political pressure mounted, he chickened out and rolled many back, delayed others, or offered exemptions. Ignoring all of this and acting as if Trump's tariff policies were consistent or strong throughout, and that early predictions they would cause inflation are now all wrong, is the height of intellectual dishonesty.

Obviously, Davis is delighted...

There is no doubt that the Big Beautiful Bill will contribute to excess and unnecessary deaths, since it cuts Medicaid, food assistance, and other social services for vulnerable Americans. When vulnerable people lose access to this kind of help, the outcome is always worse health and more deaths. How many it will cause is up for debate, but there is no doubt that it will. Republicans seem to be ok with that since they have been led to believe that a large portion of the people on Medicaid and these other social services are somehow freeloaders. However, that is a dangerous and untrue myth. There are strict criteria even before the Big Beautiful Bill; you can't just choose to be on Medicaid. Your income must be below the federal poverty level, and you must demonstrate a need. The majority of people on Medicaid are children, low-income working adults, elderly people in nursing homes, and people with disabilities. Another consideration is that cutting this type of aid doesn't save money; it merely shifts the cost of the need elsewhere. Emergency rooms, unpaid caregivers, and other social services that are already struggling to keep up will be the ones who pay the cost of these cuts. The Republican framing of the most vulnerable among us as underserving freeloaders who are expendable is morally troubling for what is supposed to be the "pro-life" party.

It's all about the Benjamins...

The bill is break-even for my household, or at best a modest gain. I guess that any gains we do get will be offset by other unintended consequences of the bill, such as state and local taxes rising to cover costs, inflation, or tariff impacts. And I won't be around to see the truly awful effects, unless they do materialize sooner than 20+ years from now. So, Happy Birthday America, and let's all make America Worse Again!

Are you taking issue with Rod for saying something as commonplace as "It's all about the Benjamins"? That phrase has long been part of American vernacular and is used to describe the influence of money in politics.

If you're going to scrutinize language for hidden meanings or possible offense, you should be consistent.

Right-wing figures and commentators routinely use rhetoric that carries much more serious implications:

  1. "America First" may sound patriotic, but it has deep historical associations with nativism and isolationism. It is undoubtedly a dog whistle to signal a hard-line nationalist worldview.
  2. Trump frequently describes immigrants using dehumanizing terms like "animals," "invaders," or even worse, which serve to justify extreme policies and harden public sentiment against them.
  3. Trump and MAGA often portray LGBTQ+ individuals as threats to children or American values, which fuels moral panic and leads to book bans, restrictions on speech, and rollbacks of rights.
  4. Trump and MAGA demonize political opponents and the press as enemies of the people or subversives, not simply as rivals in a democratic process but as existential threats.
  5. Trump's embrace of authoritarian imagery, from military parades to praise for strongman leaders, has become increasingly normalized in some corners of the right, reinforcing a vision of power over pluralism.

Only you could single out a relatively tame comment from Rod while ignoring far more explicit and aggressive language from Trump and MAGA alike.
