A trade deficit is not a subsidy.

And, while I am here,  the 250% dairy Tariff is a marginal tariff which only kicks in if the US exceeds a negotiated, agreed-upon limit of dairy products into Canada.  Below that level?  No tariff...Free trade.

Republicans, who claim to love free-market principles, are protectionist populists now under Trump. If Trump can deport immigrants en masse, it will only make things worse. I expect inflation and prices for everything to rise sharply over the ensuing years unless cooler heads prevail or opposition can tamp Trump's worst proclivities down. To make matters worse, Trump and Republicans now dismiss the opinions and prescriptions of experts or academics outright since they are woke or DEI elitists. And now Trump is trying to destroy the Department of Education, another right-wing attack on education in general because they are afraid of "wokeness" or something. I'm worried this "America First" agenda will be disastrous, but maybe it's what needs to happen to wake the electorate up to how dangerous Trump and his agenda are.

Trump’s national security adviser added a journalist to text chat on highly sensitive Yemen strike plans

PS: Nobody at today's senate intel committee hearing on all of this stated Jeffrey Goldberg lied about anything. But listening to "Tulsi" Gabbard and John Ratcliffe, anybody could see and hear who was doing the lying...

What MAGA wants to know is the following. When will Hillary and Hunter be jailed for this?

And remember, the only one who backs PETE 100 PERCENT IS THE SCREAMER! wink

Republicans screamed for Austin's resignation because he had an unannounced hospitalization and surgery. What Hegseth has done is at least 100 times worse. He would admit at least that much if Rich had intellectual integrity, but we all know he won't.

So, the best that he can do is call the guy a liar. Liars can still get inadvertent texts from a dumb former Faux News personality/incompetent and stupid Secretary of Defense.

He can deny it all he wants, still doesn't make the alleged not true. Will this be another hill Davis is willing to die on?

It's crazy. They attack the journalist's character, call him a liar, and all kinds of vile stuff, yet they were the ones dumb enough to include him on a Signal chat about war plans? If a blunder like this doesn't get you fired, why do we even have laws trying to ensure and protect our national security? They should all be fired and charged; anyone who knew about it and wanted to cover it up should be fired, too.

That this happened is no surprise, though.  After all, this is the administration whose leader thought that the gold-plated swamp hotel in Mira Lago was a suitable place to store boxes and boxes of classified documents. LOL

Our national leaders' standards are abysmally and ridiculously low. It was terrible before Trump, but I blame Trump and his near-constant assault on norms and expectations for behavior for this new low. As long as they can survive politically, that is all that matters. They will not be held to the same standard that would send any of the rest of us straight to prison.

Historically, some of the leaking and all of the document mishandling seems attributable to incompetence or paranoia.  Some leaking is the result of malfeasance though, like the IRS or FISA leaks.   Do we know which this is?   Seems odd that this particular journalist would be leaked to through incompetence.  Either way, the general public is numbed.

It does appear to be amateur hour. Last I read, Waltz included the journalist by mistake.

It's funny how fanatics like Rich can't admit that two things can be true simultaneously.

Yes, no?

The Biden administration policy on encrypted apps and which should be used:

The CISA guidance specifically cited that government officials should download "end-to-end encrypted communications" platforms to their cellphones and computers, specifically citing Signal as an app to download to comply with the best practices
.

"Adopt a free messaging application for secure communications that guarantees end-to-end encryption, such as Signal or similar apps," the guidance states. "CISA recommends an end-to-end encrypted messaging app that is compatible with both iPhone and Android operating systems, allowing for text message interoperability across platforms. Such apps may also offer clients for MacOS, Windows, and Linux, and sometimes the web. These apps typically support one-on-one text chats, group chats with up to 1,000 participants, and encrypted voice and video calls. Additionally, they may include features like disappearing messages and images, which can enhance privacy."?

Well then, did you want to double down on your assertion above, claiming: "the use of Signal by itself, for any official conversation is surely prohibited."?

I read the CISA recommendation. It doesn't say anything about using it for classified information. It only talks in generic terms about using it to secure mobile communications for highly targeted individuals. I'm sure separate laws mandate how government employees can share sensitive classified details, and I highly doubt a commercial mobile application like Signal is part of the equation. Besides, if Signal was allowed for classified materials, why does the Trump administration insist that nothing classified was shared? Wouldn't it be a moot point?

I can also find lots of news articles that completely counter what Fox News is trying to push. Specifically, Signal is not an approved application for discussing material as sensitive and classified as Hegseth and the other people in the chat group were.

I have zero confidence that anyone will ever be held accountable. All Trumpians have to do is deny, back-pedal, and spin until everyone loses interest, and the next outlandish mistake or Trumpian action takes place and dominates the headlines. Even if Congress establishes an investigation, they have no absolute authority to enforce anything. Our government is one huge unaccountable group of elites.
