What should we do

Posted By Mike Strieber

I have been reading torture posts the last few days. The opinions cover the entire spectrum, which is good since this is a discussion forum. So I'm wondering how imminent and big does a potential attack have to be before using torture? I figure at some point every president would authorize an “any means necessary” order. I don't really have a problem with something like that and wouldn't hold it against a president either. In my mind they would be doing their job by protecting the country. I have a feeling President Obama will face this scenario during his term. Any thoughts?

Andreas

Another 3000 innocent American lives is worth a waterboarding or two. I'll take that risk to our image.

At least he got one thing right in his career so far.

Obama's gonna get your guns

Posted By Mike Strieber

Rod Kaufman said:

The latest ploy from Obama: ratifying a treaty that will allow foreign countries to identify gun owners in the United States. Specifically, Mexico will, if the treaty is ratified, be able to identify gun owners in America. You know what this means, illegal immigrants looking for work will knock on your door to verify your gun ownership. You also know this means they will come to take them and you will give it to them.
Doesn't this go contrary to the second amendment? Where are our rights?

According to Obama we're already giving them all the guns they need.

It reminds me of the movie Red Dawn where the invading Latin American armies obtained gun owner records in the US to identify those who might be members of the resistance. Clearly Obama is not only a secret Muslim but he's helping Mexico plan their military invasion of the US...just as Glenn Beck predicted! grin

If in fact what you suggest is true, what better incentive for people to get their guns illegally? Hopefully it's rumor mongering...as is Obama being a secret Muslim for all you prepared to jump all over me for suggesting something like that...after all, I recognize we can neither confirm or deny that he is. wink

Republicans Try "Reshape" Image

Posted By Mike Strieber

Rod Kaufman said:

Are they kidding!?
First, they have to deal with their own conservative protestors: McCain's a RINO,(Republican in name only).
Second, they choose Virgina, the home state of virtual no-gun laws Shangri-La, to initiate their battle cry.
Third, they have Jeb Bush attempting to inculcate some common sense: "listen a little bit, learn a little bit". After reading what they did, it's obvious they didn't listen or learn anything.
Fourth, they bring up Flip Romney whose positions on the issues continue to change with which ever way the winds blows and boy does it blow with that guy. What does Flip come up with today? Republicans are the revolutionaries! This is the same guy who called the George W Bush presidency, "The Bush Revolution!" (It would be funny if it weren't so tragic).
Fifth, back to brother Jeb (and this one's a doozy)"I would say you can't beat something with nothing!" (In other words, the Republicans HAVE NOTHING). Jeb continues, "The other side has something!" (Really? You mean the White House and congress and their political process?) "I don't like it but they have it!" This guy's a riot!
Sixth, the only one who made any sense on the whole thing wasn't a Republican at all! It was our president who said of the Republicans and their plight, "I don't believe in crystal balls, I do think our administration has taken steps to restore confidence in the American people..." Pragmatic, to say the least, as opposed to the Republican party of "No."
Seventh, the Republicans actually managed to recognize the obvious and commended president Obama as "forward looking".
Eight, they're taking the show back on the road with more of those "town hall meetings." Not again, more reruns!
Ah yes, the Republicans and Rush look to the future and they find...radio!
http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/05/02/gop.townhall/index.html

So what's your point Rod? They shouldn't try and "reshape" their image? You would be content with a one party system forever now? Even if you don't like what they represent you can't honestly believe it is in the best interest of this nation if the Democrats never get challenged again.

Interesting comments regarding criminal killed

I'm only posting this to give you an idea of people's attitudes when a criminal is killed in New Orleans by police. Scroll through the comments.

The atitude is basically "one less POS in the world". :S

If the facts of the article are correct, it's a good news story. It is interesting how favorable the comments are though. I guess it gives you a good idea of the people's state of mind when they're fed up with crime. It appears the good folks of New Orleans generally side with the police in these instances as oppossed to say, NYC or LA, where the police are often considered the criminals by the locals (some). Certainly there's bad cops out there but I still trust the police far more than I do criminals. If I'm getting robbed I'm calling the cops, not the Crips. Granted, I don't live in an environment like that so my perspective is from an outside position.

Breaking: Gay Marriage Opponent Topless Photos Lea

The Miss America runner-up Carrie Prejean scandal keeps fueling controversy and these new photos won't help. NSFW.

I find it amuzing how the gay community demands tolerance and equality but doesn't practice it themselves. Disagree with her position, that's fine. Call her a stupid b&$% and all the other attacks she getting, that's bs. I saw a woman from NOW the other say she should have got a brain transplant instead of breast implants. This is coming from a woman who is a self-proclaimed representative of women! The far-left and gay rights activists are doing themselves a disservice by the continual attacks on this woman. I believe, in general, America is siding with her. I have to believe the gay community has taken several steps back over the last week in their quest for "equality".

Obama reverses himself

This is on the other detainee photos

It's a smart move and I give him a lot of credit. I don't care about a flip-flop if the move is right in the long run. I heard an analyst say today this is a sign of him coming out of the campaign mode and moving into the Commander in Chief role. I agree, he shouldn't fall victim and be held hostage to political pressure from organizations such as the ACLU.
