More Pardons Coming

Posted By Tom Rodstrom

I'd like to see these Justice Department officials in jail. I doubt that it will happen, but Bush might get writers cramp signing all those pardons.

A near miss

Posted By Tom Rodstrom

One of the most outrageous statements by Rev. Wright was a near miss. He claimed that the AIDS epidemic was a plot by the government against blacks. He probably noticed how much more the AIDS epidemic hit the black community verses the whites. With documented proof of government experiments on humans and on blacks in the past, he certainly had reason to distrust the government. Perhaps that was the reason he blamed the government for the disparity.

As it turns out, African Americans have a genetic susceptibility to AIDS. Certainly high rates of drug use linked to poverty is a big factor, but with the genetic factor added, AIDS has completely devastated the black community.

It would be interesting so see what would happen. The two friends of mine who went to Sturgis this year are both strong Barack Obama supporters.

What has Barack Obama said or done in the past to make one question his love of this country, Jim? Any specifics?

Power hungry ???

Isn't it McCain who has sold out to the Republican machine to get his shot?

After the 2000 elections, he was actually talking to Democrats about changing parties. Now, one after another, he has given up his core stands to support the Bush agenda.

Does this scare you too?

I don't think that John McCain is the right man for the Presidency. I think John McCain an emotional, gut level warrior, perfect in a battle, but not suited for setting strategy. This is a very revealing article about John McCain that supports my concerns.

The Curious Mind of John McCain
Ambition and Emotion Color the Complex Intellect of the Candidate
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/08/01/AR2008080103032.html

I would like a President who knows himself. - ... there are still too many claims on my attention to permit more than the briefest excursions down the path of self-awareness. When I am no longer busy with politics, and with my own ambitions, I hope to have more time to examine what I have done and failed to do with my career, and why.

I don't want a President who is trying to prove something. I've had enough of that with Bush. - McCain has conducted a lifelong struggle "to prove to myself that I was the man I had always wanted to be".

I would like this country to lead by example (first) rather than become the international cop. - McCain believes in a muscular mission for America. ... "Yes, we must be involved in the destiny of other nations."

I would like a President with an optimistic outlook. - "Life sucks, but it's worth doing something about anyway."

I certainly don't want a President who is there simply because that is his ambition! - "I didn't decide to run for president to start a national crusade for the political reforms I believed in or to run a campaign as if it were some grand act of patriotism. In truth, I wanted to be president because it had become my ambition to be president. . . . In truth, I'd had the ambition for a long time."

I want a pragmatic President who understands all aspects of a situation, not just black and white. One who thinks before he acts, not an emotional hot head. - "I think his mind is visceral," Hart said, "driven less by thought and more by feelings. This doesn't mean he's totally reactive or without logic or thought processes; it just means he's a fighter pilot. He reacts to circumstances."

A senior official in the Clinton administration who worked with McCain on Bosnia and Kosovo, where McCain defied most of his Republican colleagues to support strong U.S. action against Serbia, agreed. "In the many, many years that I've been in Washington," this former official said, insisting on anonymity to avoid upsetting McCain, "John McCain is far and away the most emotional politician I have ever met."

"McCain is all emotion," the former official continued. "People don't understand that, so they keep talking about his temperament, his temper. He reacts emotionally, therefore unpredictably."

McCain can be impatient with complicated answers to questions he considers straightforward, with gray when he sees black and white. For example, he sees no gray outcome possible in Iraq: "In war," he has said, "there is no such thing as compromise; you either win or you lose." But he has not defined victory in Iraq, and many wars have ended ambiguously.

Re: Who do you believe?

Jim, as I said in the other thread with this link. An awful lot is known about Hillary. Over the years she has been investigated over and over by many different parties. Unless she was on the short short list, more information might not be necessary.

Of course the Obama camp investigated Hillary very carefully during the primary since she was the leading opponent. That's what campaigns do, looking for weaknesses in their opponents.

Draw straws

Posted By Tom Rodstrom

When I was in college my sociology teacher surmised that in a Democracy like ours, if you put all eligible voters names in a box and drew straws, the system would work as well as just as well as if we held elections. At 18 I thought he was crazy. Now, after seeing what special interests have done to this country, I don't think he was crazy, but I think he was wrong. I think that the system would work better!

What do you think?
