TELEVUE DIAGONAL CLEANING... Posted By Ivan Gastaldo

Well, I took my scope out tonite, and to my surprise it looks as if my diagonal really needs to be cleaned up!
It looked like small black dots scattered all over... weird, but true.

It is a Televue (non-Everbrite) 2" enhanced aluminum. Could it be coating problems?

I'm familiar with cleaning the optics of my scope's corrector plate, and I know that normally you don't need to do it unless it is REALLY dirty, but this is buggin' me! (I still have a bottle of specially made cleaning solution for it)

I tried to clean one of these spots very carefully, and it felt as if it wasn't just dirt, but something stuck on the actual mirror, it felt like a minuscule bump (if you get the idea).

Is there a safe way to clean this? should I take it apart and try?

Hello Ed,

No, you do not require to have your image pre-aligned before stacking, the software takes care of it. You will select a section of reference in your image, and based on that the software will take care of the rest.

There are some artifacts and blooming on some stars (from original), which takes lots more time to fix...

Dew Controller SCT-Strip location Posted By Ivan Gastaldo

Well, this question is simple...

I just got my Dew Controller and the 10" Strip for my SCT. Weather has been nice, but I know things will change soon, and DEW will crawl all over the scope.

I've seen people using their Dew Controller Strips all over their scopes, being in the front of the corrector, right on it, and also way behind it...

I would expect that the Strip would go on it (meaning the Corrector ring), or in front of it, but not behind the Corrector ring... am I wrong?
Wouldn't this introduce currents inside the scope?

Hello Gretchen...
The LX-90 scope is a very nice scope indeed, it has been out for a while now, and most owners love it!

The Ultra High Transmission Coatings (UHTC) are nice to have, and if I'm not wrong, that's the way they come now. The Standard EMC coatings (non-UHTC) are special order item, or you might find them on a used LX-90 for sale.

I think he would be definitely a VERY HAPPY CAMPER with this scope... since it will allow him to view thousands of items with ease.

I would just be careful where I buy it, since there's lots of fraud going on...

Astromart is a VERY SAFE place to find what you need, since the Administrators take the EXTRA CARE & TIME to make sure WHO comes here...

Most of us ARE dedicated to this hobby, and treat our transactions seriously.

Smoothing ST-80 focuser... Posted By Ivan Gastaldo

Hello all...

Here we come with a $100,000.00 question.... (well, not really...)

The ST-80 is a nice "little" scope, but is there a way to make the focuser work smoother than the factory setting?
I mean, can we change the grease on it to improve it? (currently it feels like it uses MOLASSES for lubrication...) LOL!

Would white lithium grease make it better? I sure hope so!
Any other changes, tweaks anybody would recommend?

Saturn was still well under 30 degrees up, and as it was coming up from the muck, the heat waves were still making it dance...

Every once in a while some steady shots were available, but not many at all...


Anyways, I enjoy spending my time outside, and that's what it is all about...
