Herschell Marathon for large GOTO scopes.

How about a marathon for those with big GOTO scopes? Mabe they could find as many objects as possible from one or both of the Astronomical League's Herschel 400 catalogs. Note: one must record his or her observations, at least breafly describing the object. Example: fairly bright elliptical galaxy, considerably brighter toward the center.

Moon Thurs. ToUcam Test Photo

Here is one of my first shots with the ToUcam. I just took a 2 second AVI @15 FPS and full resolution. This is through my short tube 80 @ f/5 with an Orion V-block filter and a prism diagonal. The only processing was done with registax.

I used the control software that came with the camera. I noticed that if I didn't cover at least 75% of the frame with the moon, the software would set the gain such that the moon would be over exposed. Is there any freeware on the web specifically for taking astronomical images with a web cam? Also, what software is best for the final processing of the image?

I just saw Jr for the first time tonight! grin (10" f 5.6 @ 237X) The seeing was bad, (3-4/10) so the view was fleeting. I confirmed that I did see it by looking at the most recent Jupiter pics on ALPO's web site.

Scooter died today. She went down hill so fast. The necropsy showed that her internal organs were shot all to hell. Her previous owners, who were abusive, and from whom I rescued Scooter, must have smoked. Her lungs were in terrible shape, all filled with blood, and her air sacks were coated with tar. Her liver was enlarged and here kidneys were full of blood as were her ovaries. I was with her at the end, she seemed so frightened. She's in a better place now.

I had her for five years, and she left such a hole in my heart that I feel I'll never be whole again. She was so human like, I feel like I've lost a child. Yesterday, she seemed fine and happy. She left us at around 3pm MDT on Sept 17, 2006.

I assume that the Paracorr accepts 2" ep's. (it would be sill if it didn't)

What I would like to know is if there is any noticable vignetting when used with low power, wide field eyepieces, say the 31mm Nagler.

Also, what function does the tunable top serve?

Does Meade Make Dobs?

They do indeed make 12.5 and 16 inch dobs. The 16" that I looked through was quite good. They are cardboard tube dobs, ovcourse, but they are also a bit cheaper than discovery's cardboard tube dobs of the same size.
