Might need the cerebral horsepower of an Astro Physicist to answer this question I have been wondering about;
We know that light travels at 186 K miles per sec. and that radio signals do likewise, hence 8 min. travel time for sunlight to reach earth, and indeed several hours to communicate with space probes such as Surv. I & II. Here is my question; Based on statements I have heard that 1950's TV shows are now nearing star systems 50 light years away, "How far and how long will these signals continue to travel"? Is the answer based on how much energy was used to generate the signal? For instance, in the case of the light energy leaving a 6 volt flashlight source aimed at the moon, what happens to the Photons coming out of the lens? does it run out of steam? or could with the right equipment sensitive enough pick up the energy that was being emitted? The light energy that is being produced from lets say M-104 appears as a pinpoint of light as it strikes the back of my Retina, this massive system in Virgo ( a Spiral Galaxy ) took some 60 million years to traverse this distance. How many more years will it continue and how far will it eventually travel?
My understanding of this type of phenomenon is pretty base, I would like to learn more.. I am pecking away at Stephen Hawking's " The Universe in a Nutshell " Wish me luck.. eating is no problem, it's the digesting that is difficult. So if any of my fellow Star Buffs have any inside info on Light and how it works in relation to the questions I have just posed, I would be delighted to peruse through it.. Clear Cold Nights... Mayby one of you Gentlemen can settle this Question my brother and I seem to have; We know objects here on earth do not float in mid-air, simply because Earth's Gravity is pushing on them. Even on the surface of the Moon where this force is about 1/6 that of Earth's objects still fall.
Question in point; On earth a person in a elevator that is in free fall from the 100th. floor lets go of his/hers brief case, the case does not fall to the floor of the elevator, it floats in mid-air because it is falling the same speed as you & the Elevator. We are wondering if this is the same phenomenon that occurs at "MECO" (Main Engine Cut-Off.) when the Space Shuttle enters Orbit around Earth.
In other words, are the Astronauts falling, round & round..
and objects in the cockpit are "floating" (falling) ?? My brother's contention is that they are free from earth's Gravitational field, and that they are not falling. Also if instead of remaining in Orbit the Commander opts for the two day journey to the Moon, does the crew remain weightless? The Shuttle is traveling aprox. 17K Miles an hour, there must be some effect on floating objects if the Rocket engines are engaged.. Appreciate any light you can shed on this question... Would like some of your thoughts about the "Star Registry" program that is available to those who wish to have a Star
named after them. For a mere $48.00. You even get a Star Chart so you can find "YOUR" star. It is then entered with the US Pat. Office for authenticity. My immediate thought was, who endowed these enterprising entrepreneurs with ownership of the Heavens? I guess it kind of reminded me of when I first took my two boys up to Mt. Hood to ride their sleds and my inner tube in the snow, everwhere we went it seemed there was a fence and someone wanting money to let you slide down "Their" Hill, anyway, after miles of driving we eventually found some unfenced area off a side road. I guess I just don't know how they can sell something that is so ephemeral, and would seem to belong to all of us.. Your thoughts?? JOHN M

So, my interpretation of what EZEKIEL witnessed that fateful day, way back when, was that of a vehicle of some
kind, The whirlwind he describes is probably the dust & debris being thrown up from the thrusters as the craft is decending. Then to his suprise four crewmen (alien) to his knowledge of what man looks like, "living creatures". emerge, Then as mysteriously as it arrived the lander lifts off, this time the Noise is noticably louder, have you ever been up close to a raging waterfall and tried to speak in a normal level? you can't be heard. And the color Amber is of course orange, the color of rocket exhaust fire. The landing gear is mentioned as "wheels". So thanks to His attention to detail Ole Zek has provided for us a vivid account of his " Encounter of the earliest kind ."
So now, like so many other "stories" in the Bible we will hear many varied interpretations of this "Vision." as I am assured my theory won't fly in too many Bible Circles.

Can anyone give me some "hands on" info on this 7" refractor. I have never had the opportunity to view through one. Have heard real good & real neg. feed back. would like to hear from someone who actually has one or is a former owner. My last 2 scopes were; TV 102 & MN-76 Mak/Newt. Thank you for your time, JM

Can anyone tell me why a worm, like the latest, Dubed "Slammer" introduced to the World last week, is produced to wreck havoc?? Is it Terrorism? Or a Computer nut that get his/her kicks from watching the sensationalism they involk? S.Korea got hit the hardest, infiltrating their World Web. In this Country Hundreds of Banks were frozen at the ATMs... Airline Travel Agencies were shutdown. GW is going to have to find a viable safeguard for emergency & communication resoures, so they are not enabled by these insidious programs.. If not generated by our definition of "Terrorist" then what kind of motive do the perpetrators have? what is their ultimate goal? John Meiners

I didn't know what forum I should post the following thoughts & feelings, "off topic" or here... so I flipped a coin. Watching Nightline this evening I was deeply touched by the films brought back by the photo journalists taken in the Country of Zambia (South Africa) The Program was titled, "On their Own". The show highlighted the growing situation of children left alone to fend for themselves after their parents have died from the Aids Virus. All the children have is what is on their backs, no wardrobes here.
many as young 2 & 3 years old, being taken care of by their older brothers or sisters. I saw where some of the kids were sleeping in drainage ditches, many of which going to sleep without food in their tummies. It just broke my heart to sit and see these little unfortunate ones, no shoes, tattered shirts & shorts.. The scary part is that the 2 year projection is for aprox. 100 million people to be infected.... I wish instead of* 2 billion dollar bombers we build,* (thats 2000 Million per B-2.) that we, and other countries could provide some relief... food, clothing, shelter. What a mess. Now most of my complaints & gripes seem so travail by comparison..certainly puts matters into perspective, John M
