North American and Pelican Nebulas

Well, I got a pleasant suprise last night when the skies stayed clear here in Southern California for the entire night. Needless to say, I took advantage of it.
30 minute exposure on Kodak Supra 400.
Orion Astroview 120 achromat mounted on a 12" LX200.
Guided with an ST-4 (note: Guiding was off do to improper balance to the east).
Shot with a Pentax Spotmatic through a IDAS LPS filter.
Seeing stayed at about a 7, but transparencey fluxuated between a 4 and 6.
Comments always welcomed, tips and suggestions greatly appreciated.

last nights lunar eclipse

Well, we all learn from our mistakes. Always remember to focus the camera on a star before shooting the moon...~sigh~ Here's one shot that I found interesting.
Shot on Kodak Supra 400 (the new, bad astro stuff) through an 120mm Orion Astroview W/ MV filter. I bracketed about 25 photos and failed to write down the exposure times (another lesson learned)...I just know this one was short.

M8 revisited

Hi All,
With a tip from a friend, I rescanned my M8 negative and used the Dimage Scan Dual III to reduce the severe vignetting caused by the 7.5 focal reducer I use on my 12" Lx200. Here is the uncropped photo. This is a single 45 minute exposure taken on Kodak Supra 400 with an IDAS LPS filter from El Cajon, Ca.

M45- The Pleiades

This is a composite of 2 40 minutes photos taken on Kodak Supra 400 and a 300mm f/8 Pentax lens. Combined in Registar and processed in Photoshop 7.0. These were taken in very windy conditions(Santa Ana conditions) at the SDAA club site on 10/25/03. This is what I came home to on Sunday morning...

Ngc2393- The Eskimo Nebula

Hi All,
Well, I finally made the leap from film to CCD with my purchase of a new ST-7ME. After having it out about 3 time in my front yard, I finally took it to a dark sky site last Sat. night. Here is one of the images I captured. 7 images combined and dark subtracted in MaxIm Dl and processed in photoshop. Seeing turned out to be a little poorer than I calculated, as I had to run a deconvulsion process on each image and was only able to use 7 out of 15 taken. Each image is 7 minutes..Through a 12" LX200 at F/6.3

NGC3190 & NGC3193

Hi All,
I took advantage of an unexpected clear night here in Southern Cal. last night and shot a few pictures. Here is ngc's 3190 and 3193 in the neck of Leo. 6 10 minute exposures taken with a 12" LX200 at F/6.3 and a ST-7ME. This image could have used about 30 minutes more data, but I ran out of time.

NGC4567 & NGC4568 AKA "The Siamese Twins"

I took advantage of clear night last night to image 5 targets. This image was taken under less than ideal skies, with the transparency and seeing at 5/6 respectivly.
12" LX200 at f/6.3 with the ST-7me. 6 x 10 minute exposures dark subtracted and combined in MaxIm Dl and processed in photoshop. This image could have used another 3+ exposures, but I ran out of time.
