Orion 80mm ed GONE?

Posted By Paul Mouritsen

Hi,

http://www.digitecoptical.com/ shows the scope in stock. I called them yesterday and they still had a few.

Best,

Sky90 on a Telepod...

Posted By Paul Mouritsen

In case anyone has this same question...

I finally received my new(used) Telepod and the Tak clamshell will not sit directly on the mount. The clamshell is too wide. I think that the Pronto balance aid should do the trick.

Best,

Paul

SkyWatcher 102/500 Or Wo Megrez II 80mm

Posted By Paul Mouritsen

Hi,

I had a Megrez 80 briefly. The build quality is wonderful but the optics are underwhelming. I have owned an ST80, a Pronto, and now a Tak Sky 90. I would put the optics of my Megrez sample between the ST80 and the Pronto. For that price you could get a used Pronto or a new Orion 80ED. From the reports I hear of the Orion it would be the best bang-for-the-buck scope. The ED/APO versions of the Megrez sound promising but at that price point they will be running into very stiff competition with Teleview and Takahashi.

Best,

Paul

Moon Filters

Posted By Paul Mouritsen

Whoa.. I did not realize that this would be such a fertile topic. I think that I fall into the category of overly sensitive eyes. I find it hard to view a bright moon very long even with adaptation. I even have to view the moon last in a session because it destroys my night vision... I am sure this is common however. I will buy a filter and give it a try. I really do enjoy long views of the moon and in my profoundly light poluted location it is often the most satisfying object in the sky. I am going to The Big Island of Hawaii next month and hope to get a dark sky fix.

Thanks for all of the input..

Paul

my lightweight winter rig

Posted By Paul Mouritsen

Hi Larry,

Are you saying that the rig will also take an 8" SC? How about high power with the SC? I am using a Lapides modified Teegul with my Sky 90 and have been wondering if it would handle either an Intes MN56 or a 5-6" Mak...

Best,

Paul

June 24, 2023 09:45 AM Forum: How to make AstroMart BETTER!! My idea is.....

add custom classified alerts

Posted By Paul Mouritsen

I think that OP was suggesting that it would be great to get a message or email whenever a NEW add was posted for something they were interested in. For example, say I am looking for a Leica Zoom. I would sign up to be notified whenever an ad was started with the words "Leica Zoom in the title or perhaps the ad body.

This would save time from constantly having to scroll through the ads or log in to do a manual search.

I think this is a great idea.

I just got scammed by him also. $650. I placed a wanted ad and he offered a price that was good and about normal. I should have bailed when he started getting pushy but he somehow had good feedback from 2020 and seemed to know about astro hardware.

One problem here is that someone can leave feedback when they never actually bought something. All you need is to have contacted the person regarding an ad.

He also uses [email protected].

He invoiced me also but I bypassed it and went directly to PP and did a normal payment via his email address. Luckily I did not do F&F or Zelle as he suggested. For some reason I had issues sending the money. I eventually broke the payment up into three pieces and they unfortunately went through.
