Orion/Skywatcher

It is my understanding that they are both made by Synta. (who now owns Celestron) If I had a choice, I would choose Orion since they typically have great customer service.

Celestron nexstar 11 GPS or CPC 11

Posted By Brock Ondayko

The optics and cool down are identical (assuming both tubes are made out of same material). The GPS version is not manufactured anymore, so you would most likely have to purchase on the used market. On the GPS model, you could also get a fastar compatible tube (I had one), but this is not available on the newer CPC model.

I personally like the look of the older model, but everyone will have their own opinion. I have not tried the newer model but I know the alignment process (sky align) is different.

Hope this helps.

Hi all, I'm looking to buy an celestron 11 inch scope. I'm more into visual than ccd stuff right now. I would like to get into ccd eventually (if I can my wife to let me). I'm interested if any one has compared the two types of cats? Have you noticed any cool down difference? Or the optics the same? any help would be appreciated. Thanks Craig

help me decide PLEASE!!!

All those scopes are outside your budget. Even a used SN8 and the DSI Pro II are outside your budget.

If that is truly your budget, you may want to consider some other setups.

Meade LXD-75 tripod

Posted By Brock Ondayko

Fred.

I have an lxd75 right now. I have several scopes that I mount on it. It currently has 2 80MM refractors on it. I often mount my 8" newtonian on it, with one of the refractors. If the mount is balanced, you will not have an issue.

I think it is a good mount to start with. I will be trying some astrophotography with my DSLR soon.

I've never had any issues, and the objects are always within the center portion of the eyepiece.

Good luck,
Brock

MEADE 12"LX90GPS

One possibility is to check into a scopebuggy. Do a search and you will find it. May work, depending on where you are able to store the scope, preferably in garage with a scopebuggy. I have also seen some pretty nice wheels that can be attached to the tripod leg ends. Do a search on Astromart and you will find them.

Thanks
