Saturn observation and Color Sketch

Posted By Thomas Jane

Last night, I braved the cold Chicagoland night 10F,and pointed my 6"Cr-150 at Saturn ,placing my 7mm. U.O. ortho from my frozen hands into the scope, I saw a very sharp image of Saturn, the Cassini division was a dark gap all around the planet, the A ring was golden yellow some contrast but no real Encke minuma was detectable by my frozen eyeballs, the B ring was bright and not as dusty as I remember from last month, and the C-ring was easy to see in front of Saturn and was much brighter on one side of the planet than the other, the SEZ was creme yellow, the seb was darker almost orange, the polar hood not as dark as last year, the sketch is my first of Saturn the image scale much too large for 171x,the color because Saturn seems to be a pastel planet.

Jupiter Sketch and Observation.4-2

Posted By Thomas Jane

Here is my sketch from last Saturday night, Jupiter was great, steady seeing conditions, many rifts in the seb,two blue barges in the neb, detail inside the grs,the sketch doesn't do justice to the view nor does the photo do justice to the sketch, i need a scanner.

Jupiter 5/03,sketch Io transit

Posted By Thomas Jane

Last Tuesday night, I had very steady seeing and was able to view the shadow transit of Io across the neb.THe shadow was dark and sharp like a hole drilled into jupiter, a large red barge follwed the shadow with a bay and accompanying festoons, the seb was very calm just a few rifts,I used a #11 filter yellow-green to tame the C.A. of my 6" achro, best mag was 200x.

Jupiter sketch 6/6/05

Posted By Thomas Jane

On the night of June 6th around 10:30 cdt, i made this sketch of Jupiter, the white rift behind Jupiter is much narrower than it was on 4/2 when I made my last grs sketch.A really neat blue festoon arched into the ez from the neb andthe neb had a dark rift in it.
