Here is M63 from earlier this week before the humidity set in here in NJ. LRGB imaging is much more difficult than I expected :S . Not the best image I've seen, but it's mine. . . all mine.

SCT male thread size

Does anyone know the thread directly on the back of an LX200 10" SCT? I am not referring to the 2" thread, but the male thread right on the back of the ota before the 2" adapter.

M8 narrow band

Hi all,

Finally got another chance to use my WO66SD refractor. At 388mm FL this scope and the size of my CCD chip work well together for a descent fov.

LRGB; L=Ha, R=Ha 40 min total, G&B=OIII 40 min total (4 min subs for both).

With the LP to my south and this being low in the sky I had to go with narrow band filters to cut though the glow. One thing I really like about narrow band filters, the stars always come out nice and tight.

I was a bit concerned with things dewing up last night but everything stayed clear and dry.

Acquired and processed in AA3 and tweaked in PS.

Wow what an eerie color this guy has. Very apropos for Halloween just around the corner.

I first thought I could use my web cam and get the comet when I first saw how bright it was - WRONG. Then I broke out my SX camera to capture this beast.

This is my first DSLR object that I have been working the processing end to get a final image. The more I stare at it the more I want to tweek it for better or for worse. As it stand now I am fairly happy with it. The one thing I can say that I would like to do is reduce the stars sizes and brightness without affecting the rest of the image. It just seems to me that they pop out too much and detract from the galaxy. Feel free to tinker and let me know how you made out and the steps in getting there.

Ed - That's what I did. I bought the lxd55 sn6. I sold off the ota and bought a c8 with the dovetailve bar here on astromart. The c8 ota is no problem for the mount, works great!

Go to www.princetonastronomy.org, look under Starquest 2003. This is my club's star party in the end of June in Hope, NJ. We are having a session then on learning how to use your scope for those who have one but don't know exactly what to do with it. If you don't want to wait that long try to find a local club.

Help with Toucam

Here is the bmp file for the image I posted. As you can see I had to adjust the image to get the final results. In photoshop le I used "curves", "levels", "unsharp mask" and "color balance" to help bring out the features. I had to take many files to get one with the best settings on the camera (ie gain and shuter speed). Unfortunately since being new at this I didn't take notes as well as I should have for these settings.
