Laptop computer and camera tripod

Posted By Edward Wiley

I am thinking of making a platform to mount my laptop on my sturdy camera tripod. Motivation is to have something I can put close to my G8 to keep away from tripping on camera cables coupled with something I can move from one side to the other as I move the scope. Anyone tired this?

Newbie first mooshot - advice welcome

Posted By Edward Wiley

I have just started moon imaging with my recently acquired C-8 and ToUCam Pro . Experienced imagers - suggestions and advice are welcome.

Clavius. Prime (F/10). Stack of best 150/600. Processed in Registax, moderate use of wavelets and masking. Seeing was so-so. Concerns are primarily collimation and focus. I think I am close, but could use some work.

Thanks! Ed

First try at F28

Posted By Edward Wiley

Uncle Rod suggested I up the focal length. So here is a try at Schiller. C-8, x2.8Klee, ToUCam at 30fps. Two images merged using the Photomerge feature of CS3. Looks like I have much to learn about mosaics from the looks of the "missing pieces." And, what is that zig-zag line artifact? Does it seem in focus?

Thanks for any feedback ya'll, Ed

First Jupiter with the new camera

Posted By Edward Wiley

Took this one last Saturday morning at the Heart of American Star Party about 03:20. Meade-8, newly acquired DMK21, about 1000 frames, RegiStax. Europa is transiting, IO and Ganymede near the bottom of the image. I am new at planet imaging, so tips and suggestions welcomed.

Clear skies,
Ed

Don't mind paying $15/year, where do I sign?

Posted By Edward Wiley

Have a link to pay our dues? The only thing I could find was the $15/month. $15/year is more than fair.

which bogen / manfrotto head?

Donald: I mounted my Celestron 102 f/5 with Telrad and a 9X50 finder (I like finders, even on "grab and go" scopes) on a Borgen 3047 after reading a number of messages on the forum. Mount side saddle. It works great.

MN56 and Astrophotography

Thanks Mike and Andrew. I am still trying to gather information, but I think that both of you are correct. Since I am looking for an "all around" scope, I am having doubts that a mak-newt is the scope for me. Ed

Meade's DSI ?

Posted By Edward Wiley

Eric: I am completely new to CCD, but had some previous experience with film. I did considerable research, read some books, and I made the decision to buy a used ST-237A rather than another CCD camera (all of which might be fine, I would not know). I noted that the chips were about the same size. SBIG has the mature software. I bought one without the color wheel and am using it with telephoto lenses as a piggyback system until I get the hang of the "new" technology. The SBIG software is super, the camera is great. I am having a blast learning the ropes without having to image through my scopes. No images to share as yet, as I am still learning!

Oh yea, anyone reading this with a spare color wheel that fits an ST-237A (CFW5C Filter Wheel), let me know!

Good luck Eric, Ed Wileysmile
