LX200 spare parts

Posted By Matthew Ota

Try Don Rothman. He tears down telescopes and sells the parts for a living. He is in California
He sets up every year at RTMC and sells parts of all kinds.

Improving Meade finderscope on ETX 90

Posted By Matthew Ota

Out in Southern California, a lot of ETX users use the Rigel QuickFinder:

It is tall enough to get away from the telescope tube and works great.

Operating The Meade LX200 GPS?

Posted By Matthew Ota

I'll have to try that on my system next time I set it up. But I am not sure if it is safe to turn on the scope without the handbox plugged in.

Upgrades to a Meade LX-5

Posted By Matthew Ota

You could mount the optical tube on a newer fork mount, such as an LX50, LX90, LX200 or LX200GPS mount, but you would have to be diligent in finding one for sale.

Rod Molise's Used SCT guide lists the LX-5 as one of his favorites.

I recently acquired an older 10" LX200 and was wondering if a mirror lock can be added to it?

I can see all of the stars in the Little Dipper, and the Milky Way. I live in a small rural town in New Hampshire. It is a class five (orange) on the Bortle Scale

bifocals

Posted By Matthew Ota

I have been wearing bifocals now for over ten years. I prefer the line type. I have no problems viewing though them, I use the upper portion.

Dark sites to go to without being harassed...

Since you live in Cincinnati, I would recommend you hook up with the folks at the Cincinnati Observatory and the local astronomy club, which likely has a dark sky site suitable for your needs.

Baader solar film D'OH! moment...

I am sorry, I do not come to this forum that often, primarily because of the poor quality of forum software used (lack of message history)

Your off axis setup is the way to go. Mine I made from sheet PVC plastic. My off axis hole's diameter is exactly the distance from the edge of my secondary mirror housing to the edge of the corrector plate.
