Coronado's Ca-K scope??

Posted By Mike Dedon

Maybe this should be on the CCD forum, but what's the thought on this little goody?

Anyone with images of Mon or Tues

Posted By Mike Dedon

Anyone got images of the looping prominence from Monday or the "funky" backwards "E" from Tuesday. I forget the orientation of the PST but I think the loop was NNE and the "E" was SSE.

I know this is a low in the solar cycle but without sunspots this is quite active the past few days. (Or maybe I'm a newbie with a PST, could be!!!)

Double Stack Fraternity

Posted By Mike Dedon

I joined the double stack fraternity with my PST today. Wow!!!

I use a Meade 4000 15mm as a primary EP. There is a narrowing of the EP field vertically. Not blotted out just darker from about 1/3 from each edge. Normal? Options?

How do the tuners fit/match between the PST and SM40? I think Coronado says the PST tuner is primary, (last one in the sequence) and that seems to be what I see.

I have the BF10 filter. Will a BF5 match better with my PST or little difference if any?

Thanks, (Did you see all of the stuff today. I never did. I feel like a teenager on a first date.)

Sun on 2-23

I know I'm behind on the latest solar events but I just got a short window between clouds today and that major filament and the numerous prominences almost made up for the last week of clouds. Wonderful viewing (PST with SM40 stack). Love it!!!

Wow, A lot of Orion 80EDs for sale

Posted By Mike Dedon

Is the 100ED eclipsing it or is the "latest/best" value wearing off just a year later. Any thoughts?

P.S. I have never seen a bad review of this scope. Might consider getting one if everyone else if cleaning house.

Nikon D70 or D100 purchase

Posted By Mike Dedon

I searched and did not find a good suggestion. I'm looking for a DSLR primarily for bird and wildlife. (I guess it's called imaging now). Nikon is my first choice but the Canons look good too. I also want to use it to supplement my dedicated CCD astro gear.

The Nikon D100 and D70 look good to me as well as the Canon EOS. Any quick opinions on these.

I know this is a very subjective question and I'm leaning toward the Nikon D100. Nikon maintains "most" of the AF series lenses are compatible and there are a large number of used lenses in the market. Telephoto and medium range are most important.

Anyone wanting to offer opinions are welcome.

New Nikon D70

Posted By Mike Dedon

Got my D70 on Thursday. What a way to go. Just been using it a a snapshot camera so far and mostly done by my wife. (I got 3 shutter releases the first day). We have a plethora(?),(a whole bunch) of gold finches on our feeders this year. Will post pictures as I learn the camera.

Thanks for your guidance on DSLRs. Mike...

First D70s Image, Please be kind

Posted By Mike Dedon

Here's my first uploaded image with my "1st" DSLR, the Nikon D70s. Not really in focus, not framed correctly, but mom let me get really close. Junior fled the scene a few seconds later and I got the impression that mom was not disappointed (leave the nest and good riddance).
