Favorites in a binoviewer

Posted By Guy Earle

I was wondering what some favorite DSO's were for others who use binoviewers. I had an older Siebert, and now have a DenkII, which seems to work much, much better on DSO's.

M37 and NGC7789 looked better last month in the DenkII than an other time in my scope. With so many wonderful globs and other things coming up, I was just wondering what your most beloved objects were.

Extreme Makeover Home --Meade

Posted By Guy Earle

Did anybody else see the Extreme Makeover, Home Edition, tonight on ABC? The decorators put an 8" Meade SCT on the roof, UNPROTECTED, on its tripod legs. Did they not even bother to read the directions? They just left it up there with no protection! They linked it to this kid's computer using what looked like The Sky.

Two weeks in the exposed California weather will turn that nice equipment to sh@t. Nice idea, but very, very badly implemented.

Just felt like ranting....

I hadn't looked at the message board in about a week. It appears I didn't miss much...

82 New messages of the SAME OLD CR@P! Albeit, with one exception "EP Recommendations".

My teenage students don't bitch as much as this Forum. I can give them detention, whereas all I can do here is change my time in this forum and sift through this once a month instead of once a week.

Then, perhaps I might find a handful of interesting posts.

To all those with nothing better to do

Posted By Guy Earle

Apparently I caused a firestorm without knowing it. Here a few words to all those raising their shrillish voices.

Point #1, I owned a Siebert binoviewer at one time. I found it good at the time. I traded up to a Denk2 and love it. It's that simple. If anybody reads anything else into that then it's time to find something better to do with your time. Go outside and observe, for one.

Point #2, I didn't post my "awesome night" of observing in this forum because all that is done here is complaining.

Point #3, I've looked through almost all the different binoviewers and I think the Denk2, which I bought, is the best. I do believe I'm entitled to my opinion, am I not? I do make my students say the Pledge of Allegiance every morning for a reason....

Point #4, It's my damn opinion--if you don't like it--bugger off.

Point #5, Thanks to Brian Crane for the common sense support.

Point #6, almost all of that post were about things I found neat to look at with the binoviewer...which is the reason WHY we all got into this right?

Point #7, Harry Siebert, you have the audacity to state that the "honest" people only look in this Forum? Your telling me any person who decides to spit out a binoviewer is equally as good as anybody elses? When did the binoviewer market become a Medieval Guild? All products are the same..Noooboooodddyyyyys beeeettterrrrr than anybody elseeeeee. Some products are better than others--not a hard thing to comprehend.

To all who complained, find something better to do with your time. Your wasting mine and many others who are trying to learn something in this hobby other than how to act like a damn child.

Just for fun

Posted By Guy Earle

Hi, all:

I took my Koday Easy Share digital camera out to my scope Monday night and tried shooting pictures through my 16 Nagler. This is my shot of the Moon. It, of course, is just for fun and shouldn't be compared to the really beautiful images that I see on here all the time.

Just for fun on Jupiter

Posted By Guy Earle

For what it's worth...

I had to use an 80A and 25%ND filter just to get past the brightness and show the belts.

This and the other shot were done in a 12.5 f/6 dob.

Need help with cleaning

Posted By Guy Earle

I recently discovered that my prisims in my bino were very, very smeared. I figured this out when a 10" was showing significanly sharper images than my 12.5 was on Monday night. Looking at the prisims, I saw that the cleaning job I had done a month before compounded the mess. Contacting Russ at Denkmeier, he told me to use acetone. I bought some at Lowes, and looked in past posts to see what people had said, and--most importantly--what I could use it on without damage.

I had been using for a couple months a Celestrons LensPen, which has a brush on one end and a graphite'ish cleaner head on the other. That is what left a smear on the bino's prisims. Upon cleaning them with acetone, I used many Q'tips which were covered with the graphite dust. I paniced that I was taking coating off at first. I read the TV website and others and realized the odds of me taking coatings off with acetone were very small. A couple other eyepieces, which I remembered using the pen on, were the same way when I cleaned them.

Has anybody else found that these pens aren't useful? I've probably been looking thru this junk for a couple months now and not realized it. This could explain why I've had "bad seeing" lately. All it was, was this pen junk. Sigh....

Here's what will wet your pants

Posted By Guy Earle

Tom Clark (at the rear of the scope), builder/owner of Tectron Telescopes, lives in Chiefland. He build a dome on the sight and currently is putting together the last bits of his 42" dob, build with a sliding focuser/secondary specifically for bino use!

Now here is a view of M13.......ack, ack......charge to 200....clear....bzzzzapppp!

Here is another pic of the Beast. Note Tom's sliding focuser assembly for bino use. My buddy Pete is on the left, I'm obviously the Neo look alike on the right. Hah!!

Parracor question with bino

Posted By Guy Earle

Just throwing this question out there: do I need a parracor?

I own a 12.5" f/6 dob, which of course doesn't need a parracor. However, I just order a Discovery 16" f/4.5. I once owned a 10" f/4.5, and only saw the need for a parracor on really wide fields.

I use a Denk II with a Power Switch, along with a pair of 24.5mm Meade SuperWides (old pair) and 15mm Expanses.

I'm thinking the only thing that the parracor would prove beneficial is my 35mm Pan, but aside from that it wouldn't be necessary. I'm looking for opinions on the matter.

Thanks,

Guy
