FS60C 2" Adapter

Posted By Charles Ryder

If you want to be able to attach 2" accessories(e.g. a 2" diagonal) to your FS-60C, get the Tak 2" compression ring adapter for the FS-78 or the Tak 2" ocular adapter for the FS-78 which is similar but uses two thumb screws instead of a compression ring.

Anacortes sells both and lists them in the "Adapters" section within "Accessories".

Among other things, the adapter will permit use of 2" eyepieces with the scope and allow it to make full use of its wide field capabilities.

Intes MN 65 Mak-Newt (long post)

Posted By Charles Ryder

John-
I picked up a used MN-56 last year and my first experiences mirrored yours.

A Rigel finder makes a decent alternative to the IM finderscope. The Rigel base attaches to the scope in place of either stock finder bracket base and the Rigel's viewing window a few inches above the OTA may be bit more comfortable to use than a Telrad might be.

My scope arrived with a single speed Moonlite focuser that I upgraded to a dual speed version. Very nice.

I added an IM baffled aluminum dewshield (not in photo). I find it's
effective and also guards against me inadvertently touching the corrector plate.

The scope rides on a Tak Modified Teegul mount on Berlebach tripod and I find it a very nice match. Of course, your MN65 is a bit heavier than my MN-56.

I'm continually impressed with how well these scopes perform, especially considerng their cost.

Good luck!

T-scope or Portaball

Posted By Charles Ryder

It depends on your seeing conditions. I have a 14.5" dob that I use 3-4 nights a year due to seeing almost never supporting that much aperture. So, for me, the choice would be simple. On the other hand, if I lived in the FL keys, opting for the the larger dob would be a no brainer.

Nagler 12mm T-4 2" extension

Posted By Charles Ryder

Floyd-
Thanks for this info. I bought a used 12 Type 4 that included the extension but I never bothered using the extension becuase I thought it was intended solely as a means of using 2" filters. Knowing that it makes the eyeiece parfocal with the 17 and 22 is great news!

Thomas Back Passes...

Posted By Charles Ryder

I was fortunate to speak with Thomas several times by phone. He taught me much and was patient and genuine. While the optics in his scopes are of the highest quality, the quality of the man behind them was even higher. He will be sorely missed.

NEAF EP question

Posted By Charles Ryder

I may be wrong but, as I recall, Type 6 Naglers sold last year for $190. A 27 Panoptic sold for $275. There were lots of other eyepieces but I don't remember their selling prices.

Once the doors open people rush to the TeleVue booth to snatch up eyepieces and other goodies--for good reason.

TMB 92mm vs Stowaway F5

Posted By Charles Ryder

If you plan on traveling alot with the scope I'd avoid the Sky 90. They're prone to going out of collimation if you even look at them the wrong way. Personal experience with three of them (one Sky 90 I and two Sky 90 II's) validated this. They also have more false color than the other Tak doublets.

I'd heartily recommend a LOMO 80/480 triplet (the ones in APM/TMB or WO tubes are the lightest and the most compact) and have heard very positive comments about the TMB 92 as well.

Good luck!

TeleVue Dioptrx

Posted By Charles Ryder

Yes, I use a 2.00 Dioptrx on my 20 Type II Nagler. Eye relief with Dioptrx attached is fairly tight but I'm able to take in the entire 82 degree FOV. And, oh, what an eyepiece!

New format needs work.

Were there no Beta testers who use iPads? I find the new format to be very disapppointing on an iPad--- only a few columns in the classified listings can be seen because only 1/3 of the width of the page is available; the other two thirds are full of superfluous information. The only way to view a complete ad listing is to scroll across the screen. Otherwise price, date, poster, etc. is not viewable.  So another strong vote to return to the prior format or something similar. The current one is virtually unusable on an iPad.
