Well, powder coated. Now and then I see some of you guys getting freaky with your equipment, and 30 sumthin scopes into I thought Id take a shot. I do a lot of solar and my G8 would sure heat up, so I trusted a friend and let him powder coat it. Turned out really nice. We tested a small piece first, and its really hard to chip. What do you guys think?

Observing moon

I was showing some friends the moon a couple of weeks ago, and Ive been curious myself, whats the smallest feature viewable on the moon? Like is there a small crater or some feature I can show that I can also say " this crater is this many miles wide"? Where do you guys get info like this?
I have a 4" Takahashi, and an 8" celestron.I often use a 4mm radian on the Tak which is around 200x.

Electric focusers.

I have a Takahashi FS102, and do a lot of solar observing/imaging. Its hard to focus keeping the monitor inside my shed, and having to run out to the scope. Is there an electric focuser for a Takahashi out there? I cant seem to find one.
If not, can the new feather touch focusers go on a Tak, if so do they make remote focusing possible? There must be something I can do.

Filter advice.

After 7 years of the hobby, Ive finally decided to try a light pollution filter. I see theres broadband, and narrowband. Read a little on the two, but would like to hear personal opinions. I have a TV 85. Ill be using a 20mm nagler eyepiece. I want a 2" filter. I want quality. Now, which filter. I have access to pretty dark skies, and of course somewhat lit skies where I live. With the TV 85 set up, which filter would work best to cut out sky glow, and bring out nebula? Whats the difference between the two bandpasses? Also, I used an O111 filter once before with a large scope, would an O111 filter be too dark to use with such small aperature? Any advice would be appreciated.

Tripods for TV 85.

I have a G8 already, but really want a really sturdy tripod for my TV85 to take out when I dont feel like dragging out too much equipment, or when I drive out to dark skies. Really want a nice one, not looking to save money, would rather invest, and be happy. Theres no big camera stores around here, and I cant really tell how big tripods are by the pics online, so am looking for recommendations. The televue tripod looks like a good choice, but an astromarter recommended I buy a bogan tripod with fluid head. BTW, thanks for the filter advice, think Ill try the UHC by lumicon. may get an o111 as well.

I cant seem to find any reviews on this. Think there is one on cloudy nights, but thats it. Is this not a very popular scope? How does it compare to small APOs in the 80 to 102 range. If you have a 5" please post your opinion. Im concerned about the optics more than the mount. Pretty large CO so Ive heard like 40% or something. A 5"Mak on a goto mount for a grand seems like a killer deal, but Ive never even seen one. Thanks,

Anyone have any experience with either of these? Has anyone seen them side by side? I would think the 6" would have the slight edge as far as viewing, but Im wondering if its a whole lot larger than the 5".

Celestron 5" SE

WOO! HOO! Go Tony! Well after 6 years Im getting back out under the sky. Divorce is a hell of a drug! Money is an issue this time around, and Ive decided on a Celestron 5" SE. I think this will work best for me. Ive got my eyepieces and all the fixins figured out, ect. Only thing is I cant seem to find any reviews on this scope, and I never see them for sale. So whats up? Anyone own one? Optics are my main my main concern. Long as itll track Ill make it point. Ive always heard great things about the optics in the older 5" models. Any input will be appreciated.
