Sun cooperation

I like to share a nice cooperation work with Russell Croman.

We agreed to image the sun at exactly the same time, me with my 4" TMB in white light and Russ with his 4" Televue 101 refractor in H-alpha focusing on the very active group 365.
We did it last Friday at 13:30 UT, he in Texas in the morning, me in Austria in the afternoon.
The combined result was very interesting, it shows not only different structures but also clearly the different height of the chromosphere (H-alpha) compared to the photosphere (white light).

North America Nebula

One of the few clear nights this month I took for imaging NGC7000 with my 4" TMB refractor at f/5 and the 10D, the successor of the Canon D60, It almost fits on the chip.

A UHC filter helped to get out the detailed structures.
Total imaging time was 125 min.

A day before Tom I tried on Trienecker with my webcam and the C11 at f/10.
Out of 800 frames I selected 400 to stack with Registax.
Postprocessed with Photoshop and enlarged by factor 1.25

Iridium flare

Yesterday I focused on an object, that normally ruins our deep sky images.
It is a -7 mag iridium flare in Virgo, captured with a 180 mm lens and the Canon 10D.

Mars with 4"TMB and C11

M8 M20 widefield

Last friday I got good conditions for this nice pair of nebulas.
I imaged with my 4" TMB at f/5 plus UHC filter and the Canon 10D.

The focus was a little off, so I reduced the image size more than usual.

Mars animation Aug 13

Mars with Phobos and Deimos

This night I used my 10D to get the Martian satellites, S&T gave me the best time of imaging with biggest distance of Phobos to the limb of Mars (22").

I cleaned all my glass surfaces to have lowest possible stray light and imaged at straight f/10 with the C11 and the Canon 10D.
I tried 4-30sec, best results were with 8 sec at ISO800.

Visually I could not get one of them.

After that I used the AP barlow and imaged the surface of Mars at f/20, (1/60 sec with the 10D) then stacked 20 of the frames in Registax and inserted it into the long exposure to show the real size of Mars, hope this is allowed.

Widefield Cygnus

To relax our eyes from the highest magnifications on Mars now the lowest possible magnification, a widefield shot on the Cygnus constellation with the 20mm lens and the Canon 10D, total 50 min of exposure.

M52 and Bubble wide view

Yesterday the sky was very dark after long rain, but the seeing was bad, so I did some widefield imaging with my TMB refractor on M52 and Bubble with my Canon 10D and the UHC filter.
The temperature dropped below 10C, good for the camera!
2o images each 300 sec were processed in ImagesPlus to go as deep as possible, see result at:

The unnamed red patch just right of the center is the eastern extension of SH 2-157.
I really like the huge chip of this camera.
